Proxmox vs Virtualizor for a new minimalist setup?

Hello LET,

I am currently weighing my options for managing a few nodes. Virtualizor seems to be the industry standard here for budget providers, but Proxmox has made huge leaps and I personally love its UI and native backup features.

For those of you running small to medium-sized operations, is Proxmox's lack of native WHMCS/Blesta billing integration (without third-party modules) a dealbreaker for you? Or is it worth the extra setup time compared to Virtualizor?

Thanks for the feedback!

Virtualizor is the best for when you want your customers to get a yearly dose of phishing and blackmail. The real debate is VirtFusion vs Proxmox

    proxmox my beloved

  • Proxmox if you know what youre doing, Virtfusion if you just want it working without reading.

I dont recommend third party proxmox whmcs modules. But i dont like whmcs either way

For a small setup, I'd lean toward Proxmox if customer billing isn't the main priority. The backup and management features are appealing. But if you're selling VPS, billing integration and customer self-service probably matter more. VirtFusion seems worth comparing too.

  • So it is Proxmox+WHMCS/Blesta with a Proxmox module

    OR

    Virtfusion with WHMCS/Blesta

    Am I right?

Partially.. Because WHMCS is horseshit (Sorry horses I don't want to insult you guys)

Don’t use Virtualizor at all. Monthly exploits, very slow, full of bugs, and more like 2010 style😂
    Go with Proxmox or VirtFusion.

Proxmox or VirtFusion. We offer modules for Proxmox in both WHMCS and Blesta, and VirtFusion has its own modules.

VirtFusion is quite cool, but we're using Proxmox to manage VMs. Virtualizor is the worst option.

  • Virtualizor is really awesome, especially for VPS hosting — the billing integration and automated provisioning make life so much easier without having to deal with custom modules or extra dev work.

The main issue with Proxmox is the lack of native billing integration — you end up relying on third-party modules or custom API integrations, which means extra setup and maintenance.

  • For a minimalist setup, Proxmox is the safer bet in my view. You get solid KVM/LXC, backups, and clustering without per-node licensing, and the community and documentation are much easier to lean on when something breaks. Virtualizor can work if you specifically need its built-in billing/WHMCS integration, but I've seen too many complaints about its security track record and slower patching to trust it as the foundation for a new panel. If billing is the main draw, I'd run Proxmox for the hypervisor and pair it with VirtFusion or a separate billing integration instead of giving up Proxmox's stability.

I feel like any panel is great for the provider to blackmail me once I have everything setup and not backed up yet. Wait that's not what you meant?

I mean that virtualizor gets hacked very often and your customers and hypervisors will likely get phishing and blackmail emails

I think ya missed the joke of providers (not really) being the blackmailer themself. According to LET accounts <2 weeks old, when they suddenly get suspended saying the provider took there money, banned them for no reason. Ya no.

    incus, why install bloat?

    ayy

  • So options are

    1. Proxmox+third party module+whmcs/blesta
    2. Virtulizor+whmcs/blesta
    3. Virtfusion+whmcs/blesta

I will add one more option

    1. Proxmox+blesta (Most cost effective. Then the issue is Client options are limited to stop/start/restart/mountISO/Reinstall/Usage Graphs etc only. For console access/Firewall options etc, we may have to give proxmox user login details to the client. But this is some how safe, we must add customer IP to the proxmox firewall for this access. Most hackings happens when client area access in whmcs/blesta gets compromised)
