Weeks later: ServerHost / VPSHostingService.co, pt 2: 3 different licensing stories in 1 ticket
This is a follow-up to my August thread about ServerHost / VPSHostingService.co wiping and reprovisioning my Linux VPS without authorization, then denying it until their own Virtualizor logs proved otherwise:
https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/220381/serverhost-vpshostingservice-co-server-host-vps-hosting-service-wiped-my-vps-and-changed-ip#latest
They comped a free year on that box and I considered the matter closed. This is a different VPS, and a new situation.
My Windows VPS (ticket #326099) started shutting down repeatedly. Here is what support told me, in order, inside a single ticket:
Oct 5 (Dinesh K): The VPS runs Windows Server 2025 Standard Evaluation, the eval license expired, that's causing the shutdowns. They license WS2022 and Win10, so reinstall with WS2022 under their licensing, which wipes the disk, backup first.
Oct 7: A support email told me the box is running "Windows 2010 pro" with an expired eval. They aren't sure what OS is on their own infrastructure.
Oct 8 (Akilan P, after consulting "Tony"/ TPoll (https://lowendtalk.com/profile/tpoll): To confirm, they do not provide or support Windows licenses for ANY Windows version. Customers are responsible for their own.
**Read 1 and 3 together. **
On Oct 5 they offered to install WS2022 under their licensing. On Oct 8 they say they don't license Windows at all. Both cannot be true.
And here's the part that matters: at no point, not at signup, not in the product description, not in the first week of this ticket, was I ever told Windows licensing was on me. The BYOL policy materialized on Oct 8 as the third answer, after the first two fell apart. A policy the customer was never told about, from a team that didn't seem to know it either until they needed it.
My own event logs confirm the eval expiry (event 1074, wlms.exe), so the shutdown cause was never in doubt. What's in doubt is whether anyone there knows what they're selling, and whether the licensing terms change depending on which agent picks up the ticket.
I've told them I don't want Windows on their infrastructure at all and asked for a refund or a Linux credit. Waiting on their answer.
Same lesson as August: maintain your own backups, and screenshot everything. Servers fail, that's fine. Being told three different stories in one ticket is not.

To expect that windows vps would be licensed for that price is an another thing after their dump support
