Hmm.. adminbolt have support for cloudlinux but the installer is not cloudlinux ready. You have to do some minor changes in the install script in order to make it work.
As for now is looking good, you can feel the AI slop :).

Hi @Andru -- Glad it's looking good so far! :) According to AdminBolt's documentation, the documented path is to install AdminBolt on AlmaLinux 9 or Rocky Linux 9, then convert to CloudLinux afterwards via the panel at the "/admin/cloudlinux-installer" path:

    https://docs.adminbolt.com/1.7/user-guide/integrations/cloudlinux

Did you try installing directly on a fresh CloudLinux OS server, or did you start on AlmaLinux 9 and run into issues during the conversion? If you started directly on CloudLinux, that may explain the installer changes you needed.

Either way, I'm sure that @Chris_AdminBolt can better advise on direct installation support and the intended process. Appreciate you sharing your experience!

Less licensing pain is always better. :D

True, I'm with you on that 😄

  • Deployment of #ADMINBOLT took around 5 minutes with #RackNerd ctrl

Onboarding into panel was smooth, including updating email etc, panel is feature rich with backups to multiple destinations, plus it's mobile friendly, i like the modules feature which lets me install modules in one click

Few things i noticed should be fixed

    1. while onboarding it takes email address updates it for admin account successfully, but later when trying to login by admin email address it fails to let me login unless I login by using username "admin"

    2. In my personal opinion I don't like the color scheme for some reason can be better

    3. In panel web servers option "nginx" is missing

    4. Modules section could also include things like WordPress etc for one click installation

Apart from these everything looks promising i guess

Thanks #RackNerd & #ADMINBOLT for making this Giveaway happen

Just tried adminbolt panel, its okay nothing outstanding.... ui/ux is a major down for me, it clearly feels unpolished and vibe-coded.... you can install wordpress easily like we do with softacolous but there no features to manage wordpress, caching or toggle imp features from panel itself.... I am not using wordpress from months now, even if I ever use, I will prefer something like spinupwp than adminbolt !!

Hi @buggedout -- Thank You for giving AdminBolt a try and sharing your feedback! Design can always be improved, and I'm sure feedback like this will help shape changes that users appreciate. I am sure that @adminbolt @Chris_AdminBolt will be taking this into serious consideration for a future update/release :)

Putting design aside, when it comes to functionality, out of curiosity if you've used cPanel/WHM or DirectAdmin before, how does AdminBolt compare in terms of functionality and the tasks you normally use a panel for?

The good news is that the AdminBolt team has been receptive to suggestions, which is encouraging. Evolution in the hosting control panel market is a good thing for end users, and input like yours will definitely help move things forward, which will, at the end of the day, benefit everyone! Appreciate you taking the time 👊

I have used cPanel and DirectAdmin before. But I dont remember about them as its been years since I used them. The most recent panel I used was plesk. It had few features like smart updates, one click maintenance mode, staging environment, fastcgi caching and few security options like block xmlrpc, bot protection, etc.... but these are not something which I cant do, they can be done by editing few files, but once again most people who use control panels are doing it because of not being technical enough or ease of use. So implementing features like these for sure helps with marketing and increases sense of security among users !!

Hi @buggedout -- That makes sense! Having those controls readily available in the panel adds convenience, especially for users who aren't comfortable editing files themselves. Appreciate you explaining the features you found useful in Plesk -- that gives the AdminBolt team more specific feedback to consider too :)

@dustinc When the 7 TB is used up, is the VPS throttled or suspended? Also, is it measured out or in+out?

Hi @forest -- Same as it's always been for RackNerd VPS services -- so the 7 TB allowance counts both incoming and outgoing traffic. We send courtesy email notifications at 90% and 95% usage, and the VPS is automatically suspended if it reaches 100%. The bandwidth allocation is monthly so the counter resets on the 1st of every month, UTC timezone

I won a giveaway for very long time 🥂😁
Thank you RackNerd @dustinc for this!
For the AdminBolt, the UI is very simple and it's ok for a user like me, I mostly won't use the UI much, setup the panel, add a website and I will just visit sometime for update.
There are also some good things about the panel:

    • It got Passkey login.
    • I'm able to switch to ZeroSSL, Let's Encrypt is great, but they got very strict limits.

    Not good:

    • No nginx web server but the Panel itself is built on nginx?
    • The UI is lagging.

Hi @giang! Congrats on the win, and you're very welcome 👊 Appreciate you trying AdminBolt and sharing both what you liked and where it could improve. Great to hear the straightforward setup, passkey login, and certificate options fit your needs.

@Chris_AdminBolt -- perhaps you can clarify the nginx question?

    Thanks again for the feedback!

    Will i miss cPanel?

ADMINBOLT - THE MODERN WEB HOSTING CONTROL PANEL!

@tenebriouslypuissant -- Maybe less than you'd expect ;) The space is moving quickly, and IMO it's hard to justify a control panel license costing more than the dedicated server it runs on (in many cases!)

But pricing is only part of it. Security and the underlying architecture matter a lot, too. April's critical cPanel/WHM authentication bypass, and the vulnerabilities following that in recent months was a serious reminder of that. There's a lot to be said for building on a modern framework and using its established security protections correctly from day one.

That's part of why AdminBolt appeals to us. At the very least, it's worth keeping on your radar and watching how it develops. I'm confident it'll be even better say 6 or 12 months from now, and imo, it already covers the core functionality that most cPanel/WHM users rely on day to day. With continued development and community feedback helping shape it, there's plenty to look forward to :)

ADMINBOLT - THE MODERN WEB HOSTING CONTROL PANEL!

Curious about this, hope this one can replace my current CPanel that have been very expensive for years!

Does this come with automation migration from CPanel? Hope you guys make it work for the live migrations!

Hi @penguinunix -- You're certainly not alone in your thinking! Pricing is one part of it, but security and the underlying architecture matter too imo. Between April's critical authentication bypass vulnerability, and the SQL injection and stored XSS disclosures since May, there's a strong case for building on established framework protections from day one. That's part of what makes AdminBolt's modern foundation appealing to us :) AdminBolt being built on a modern framework from the ground up (versus continuing to build on a legacy framework), along with continuous security auditing by Rack911Labs, gives us additional confidence in what they're building too.

On the migration side, AdminBolt offers an in-place conversion from cPanel/WHM, so you can switch on an existing cPanel server without provisioning another server and moving accounts over. That's a big plus for providers and server administrators considering a change.

We are definitely in a very exciting era, like I said before, competition in the hosting control panel market is a very, very good thing and will only benefit the community and consumers at the end of the day. :)

So I can do live migration without any interuption to the existing CPanel with all the active configuration(webserver, email and so on?)

Yes, that is correct: https://docs.adminbolt.com/bolt-migrate :)

    Thanks for the free VPS!

    • Installed adminbolt (took a while...maybe 15-20 minutes? Longer than I expected)
    • Confirmation email included plain text link--that's very handy when you're tailing a spool
    • I'd strongly prefer uploading an ssh key rather than setting a root password--especially considering the 446 and counting failed root logins in the journal
    • Opening the file manager the first time it flashed an error (something about backend error?)
    • Created an email account and roundcube gave a "invalid server name" error, but I was trying to use a username instead of an email address during the login
    • Emails sent ok, which surprised me (I expected port 25 to be blocked by default)
    • Outgoing emails fail DKIM check due to a misconfiguration--the DKIM domain is set to the parent, not the subdomain (myboltip.com vs. hunter2.192-255-XXX-XX.myboltip.com)
    • I don't see any VPN options in the panel (wireguard, wg-easy, etc.)
    • No OIDC options, such as Authelia
    • UI seems a bit slow; I'm normally waiting 2-4 seconds for the page to render
    • Strongly prefer debian (I assume it's already on the todo list)
    • Man, that's a lot of entries in the zone file! (Pretty cool that it's got the email server autodiscover stuff, but I didn't check to see if it's correct.)
    • nginx and httpd? I'm sure there's a reason, but seems redundant
    • It installed fail2ban (nice), but no integration in the panel?

That's just my notes after a quick run through. It's probably obvious from this list that I'm not a CP dude (I strongly prefer configuring things through the CLI), so you'll want to discount a lot of these comments as old man yelling at clouds?

Hi @pwned -- Thank You for the detailed notes! There's some overlap between RackNerd and AdminBolt feedback here, but I appreciate all of it -- the overall experience matters :)

On the infrastructure side, correct: RackNerd does not block port 25 by default. AdminBolt is primarily a web hosting control panel, so VPN tools are a separate use case. You can deploy WireGuard/wg-easy through the One Click Apps section in RackNerd ctrl. More on the available apps here: https://racknerd.com/ai-vps

AdminBolt is one of many apps we offer through One Click Apps for convenience. Your VPS includes full root access, so as someone who prefers the CLI, you're free to install your preferred stack or run multiple applications as resources allow 😎

Regarding SSH keys, the one-click setup displays the root password and panel login details for convenience. Those displayed credentials are removed from our side once you click the Dismiss button. You have full root SSH access to configure key authentication and your preferred SSH settings. You can also start with a fresh OS and install AdminBolt manually over SSH if you'd prefer -- this video walks through that:

I'll leave the AdminBolt-specific observations to @Chris_AdminBolt to better address. No need to discount your feedback as “old man yelling at clouds” hehehe, a CLI perspective is useful too! Appreciate you taking it for a spin :)

@Dustin Do you have a trial license i want to try it in my demo vps 👍

Hi @MagdAlmuntaser -- Absolutely! You don't need to win a giveaway to try AdminBolt :) Anyone can install it on a compatible VPS over SSH using:

    curl -fsSL https://get.adminbolt.com/install.sh | bash

When you first access the panel, onboarding will ask for your email address. Click the confirmation link sent to your email to activate the 30-day free trial.

Separately, if you win one of our VPS giveaways, you'll receive a free VPS for one year! After installing AdminBolt, sharing your feedback in this thread, and replying to my DM to confirm you've done so, we'll arrange for the AdminBolt license to be extended to cover the remaining time of your giveaway VPS.

We're only halfway through, so there are still plenty of chances to win -- keep an eye out on my latest posts for my surprise giveaway announcement batches within this thread :)

    Thanked by 1MagdAlmuntaser
  • I keep on missing this 😓 Very interested to try out the panel.
