Good business email solutions? Open‑source or affordable licensing?
I’d like to offer my clients business email accounts, which will likely also be connected to their CRM systems. Are there any genuinely good solutions on the market that handle this well while using minimal resources? Maybe some open‑source options or reasonably priced licensed software? Something capable of managing a large number of mailboxes.
Thanks in advance for any tips.

go with Postfix + Dovecot + Rspamd. If you need a more advanced setup, you can separate inbound MX, outbound SMTP, and storage servers for better scalability and control.
Kolab.org, but I'm not sure about resources consumption or you can build one on top of hosting control panel such as Hestia & Fastpanel.
I can recommend Stalwart.
Easy all-in-one, very customizable and very stable.
Been using it for some months now.
This if you want to have control over the specific parts, otherwise go with Stalwart as mentioned by @KL33NSLATE, there are already some users managing thousands of inboxes with it.
If you don't need HA and that much customization and want to use a all-in-one solution, go with mailcow.
If you want a NodeJS based stack, choose Wildduck
Your biggest issue is going to be to provide a good email deliverability rate.
You will get "emails land in spam folder" complaints from all your clients if you haven't any experience with this.
So find a reseller solution.
With proper DNS records and legitimate, non spammy content, emails can still land directly in the inbox, even if the sending IP has a poor reputation.
Yes, but he said he wants to offer it to his clients, so I'm guessing he's a CMS seller, developer, or doing something related to that. If that's the case, he probably has some technical knowledge, unless he's just vibe CMS.
Stalwart Mail is pretty easy to set up, and he can integrate it through SMTP for most CRM needs. But he also mentioned a large number of mailboxes, so this probably isn't just a normal CMS setup.
If he's okay with it and knows what he's doing, it's easier to use Stalwart or Mailcow. But considering what he mentioned, like the large number of mailboxes, CMS, and other requirements, that's why I suggested Postfix + Dovecot + Rspamd ( + Roundcube ) instead.
