they realized they can pack more users per box at about the same price point as smallest vps.
What is the difference between the Self Hosted VPS for which the discount applies and the VPS/VDS? They are both at $20/mo plan.
Because people want to ship next.js, astro, django apps without vps complexity. Think render, fly, vercel and other easy to deploy platforms that made it too easy without managing the complex infrastructure 🥲
No managing the database, server management and complex stuff, just your app 🙂

so this is just SaaS in a nutshell... with open source apps using docker....
I understand but you can get a better vps for similar price and install and use coolify for example, sure you need to manage the updates, etc.
Yaa, AI makes SaaS cheap to build, and hosting providers find a new way to cram 500 users onto one potato. Everyone's apps sitting idle 99% of the time. New overselling meta unlocked lmao.
Anyway, if they do it correctly, it's good.
