What kind of database? MySQL? Pgsql? Mongo? Supabase? Redis? Valkey? Scylla? Duckdb?

Valkey is based on redis and both are the fastest database I have ever used, as they completely live in memory nothing beats them for this. Recommendations are based on requirements so please elaborate.

we are about to offer such service soon, send me a message with the location you need, to see what can be arranged

  • https://neon.com has managed pgsql

  • chosing pgsql is not high end btw.

There's aiven and supabase as well for postgres. As for valkey not being ideal is completely up to you, if you a need a simple read/write database without complex structure nothing will surpass that for data persistency you can enable append only file or maybe snapshots? There's also scylladb which also doesn't support complex sql structures and queries but is considerably faster than postgres. There's also dynamodb from AWS you can opt for that as well.

  • https://www.ubicloud.com should be the most efficient one.

also, have you considered autobase.tech (not managed, but pretty much a good pre-build for a cluster)? You could ask @vitobotta about his experiences with that one, I assume (old name of autobase.tech was postgresql-cluster.org i think).

Another one to look at (for doing it yourself): Postgresql distribution by Percona.

I am not up to date with "regular" managed services since we have been running Postgres in Kubernetes for a while now with CloudNativePG.

Any reason of not using Firebase ? If if it for a Firebase alternative, then Supabase is the closest fit. Otherwise the best value deal is hosting it yourself.
In past few days I have researched about Neon, Aiven, PlanetScale and some more, but they all will get expensive once you cross simple threshold.

    So you're recommending Oracle instead?

How’s your experience with CloudnativePG? I’ve a plan to move my cluster to Kubernetes, but I think the release cycle are too fast

CloudNativePG is absolutely amazing. I love it, I was even interviewed by them not long ago about our use case. It's fully featured, and it gets better and better with each release. The only thing is that the project like you said moves very fast, so it's a bit hard to keep up with it but I have some automation so it's not a big deal.

    Thanked by 2rpqu sibaper

Firebase did not fit in my usage

  • I am curious. Why do folks need a managed DB service.

Because they want their DB to be... managed...?

If PostgreSQL is your main requirement, CubePath could be a good fit for what you're looking for.

We offer managed PostgreSQL starting from $20.28/month per node, with 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM and 60 GB storage. You can start with a single node and scale as your app grows.

If you share roughly where your users are located and how much data you expect to handle initially, we'd be happy to help you figure out the right setup.
