The route between the US and Europe doesn't face even half the problems seen with the South America-to-US connection via Cogent; here, issues like frequent packet loss—and even total outages—are very common with Cogent.
When network administrators here notice slowdowns, they often ask each other, "Did Cogent go down again?"
There is even a market for "premium" options among companies seeking to avoid relying 100% on Cogent for South America.
Yeah. I fell for the trap of signing up with Cogent in São Paulo. It’s absolute garbage.
I pay three times the price per megabit for premium transit with providers like Durand and Lumen, but I’ll never use Cogent for transit again.
The only upside is being able to use it to mitigate DDoS attacks right at the port without them shutting you down.
