Help Me- Reliable Dedicated Server Around $20-$30/Month, Kimsufi Alternative?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some guidance from experienced LowEndTalk members.

I found a Kimsufi dedicated server with Intel Xeon E3-1245 v5 for around $25/month, which seems like a very good deal for my requirements.

However, during the ordering process they are asking me to complete full KYC/identity verification. I understand providers need to prevent fraud, but I would prefer a reliable provider with a simpler verification/order process if possible.

My requirements are quite simple:

  • Budget: ideally $20-$30/month
  • Dedicated/bare metal server, not VPS
  • Something around Xeon E3-1240 v5 / E3-1245 v5 performance or better
  • 32GB RAM preferred
  • SSD preferred
  • At least 1 IPv4
  • Unmanaged is completely fine
  • Most important: reliable provider, stable network and reliable hardware

I am not looking for some unknown provider that disappears after a few months just to save $5. Reliability matters more to me.

Are there any good Kimsufi alternatives around $20-$30/month that you guys have personally used and would recommend?

I would especially appreciate recommendations based on actual experience rather than just providers found through Google.

Thanks in advance for your help!

It's a one time verification with quite a large company, not some random summer host. If I were you, I would do the KYC, it's definitely worth it, especially if you are able to grab something during a flash sale.

That being said, there are @ColoCrossing's yearly offers which would even be cheaper than what you are asking for, but that's US. There is also Online.net, but I don't know if there is something in stock that fits your needs right now. It generally depends in which location you are interested in, especially if you are looking for a provider on here.

  • If you want to stay with a French provider, Scaleway/online.net has Pro-4-S not too far from your price range.
Weaker CPUs in the starter line are more affordable.

Can’t lie i’m with OP, simply following is how this overreach never stops, at minimum you can vote with your wallet.

I’m in EU lot of restrictions here, I purposely find those that ignore, work-around or simply out-of country alternatives for almost everything I use.

My apple phone asked my to ID to prove i’m 18, I switched device to android with a self-loaded graphene OS same weekend, some might call this just crazy but i assure you data leaks, sale, and mis-use is no joke and my concern goes past worry, i’ve seen it affect people’s lives first-hand.

I’m not against anti-fraud i’m against how they are actively doing it, and requesting personal ID documents from an out-of state customer, it’s ridiculous. Government can pull it’s finger out anytime with not personal identification ID’s that can be validated without any personal information transfer. Vote with your wallet.

(Server4you) last time i checked did not ID, but this may have changed but do not believe so GL on search OP sorry for rant webrob

Good point OP I never been KYC by OvH personally, try a residential IP proxy if your using a VPN to sign-up you might simply bypass.

  • They usually flag if you use vpn and its in a different IP geolocation from the address on your account. After you register your account and purchase your first service, you can use VPN they don't care later.

  • I think online.net/scaleway.com, as @fredo1664 suggests, is the closest one. But OVH is far better than them

You can also check out oneprovider. Although I feel like 70% of the dedicated servers they resell are from OVH. I have been using a dedi for $22 from them, happy so far. An example dedi for $27

https://www.strato.de/server/limited-hardware/ if 100mbit port is good enough for you (1gibt port with 10TB traffics is €9 extra afaik). Please also be aware that cancelling is cumbersome and you have to cancel at least 30 days prior to your planned cancellation date.

But: i would not see that you get OVH quality here e.g. in regard to hw replacements, reliability of the DC.

But better hw replacement than Scaleway/Online via Oneprovider (but Scaleway has super premium DC reliability only hw replacements are a pita).

    These are good

Be aware though that the prices listed on that page would require a 24 month contract. Month to month prices are higher.

this is true but i think its about 15% lower on avg still good month to month for service you get, few other providers I just cant remember for the life of me, and tbh not that i condone they usually let you out of contract just by asking :)> @mrerenk said:

Yes. Here's a guide for the crazy method I found.

    1. Obtain a valid government-issued photo ID. (If you don't currently have one, apply for one through your government's official identity-document authority, it's crazy, they just give them out to anyone for a small fee!)
    2. Make sure the name and date of birth on it are actually yours.
    3. Take a photo of yourself. This part is important: you must be the same person as in the ID.
    4. Submit the documents to Kimsufi.
    5. Complete the liveness check by using your face and a phone.
    6. Wait for verification.

I have been using this method for years, still unpatched.

For the love of Christ, do not send your IDs around like it's candy, no matter why. At that point just send them to the Microsoft dextop Support Indians.
