[Looking] 8 vCPU VPS for DB — budget ~$80/year

Hey all,
Looking for an 8 vCPU VPS to run a production database on.
Use case: Dedicated DB server (PostgreSQL)
Specs needed:
8 vCPU
8GB RAM minimum
150-200GB SSD/NVMe
Decent bandwidth (4TB+/month)
Dedicated IPv4
Budget: ~$80/year (~$6.65/mo)
Nice to have:
Dedicated cores over oversold/shared
IPv6 /64
Good renewal pricing (not a first-year-only discount)
Open to any provider in this price range — SSD I/O and consistent CPU performance matter more to me than raw specs on paper. Would appreciate input from anyone running a DB workload at this price point, especially on oversell/real-world performance.
Thanks!

    @SmokyHosts

Yes I am looking in US location.

  • Production database on cheap server is not a ideal thing to do. 8vCPU and 8GB RAM at 6.50$ is not profitable today by any means, so either the provider is lying or you dont care about reliability for production use !!

He won't care until it blows up and then he'll make a post complaining about it. :)

Could you please share more details on Server?
Which CPU and (SSD/NVME) Storage on server.
How much 12 GB RAM/ 16 GB with same configuration would cost?

Can you confirm the $80/year price is the recurring/renewal price, not a first-year-only discount? I.e., will year 2, year 3, etc. renew at the same $80/year rate, or does it increase after the first term?

    8 vCPU
    16GB DDR4
    200 GB NVMe
    Unmetered Bandwidth
    Port 1Gigabit
    1 IPV4 | /64 IPV6
    Backup Manual
    KVM Virtualization
    Ashburn

    $80/ Year

Anyway to get 10gb port with BW limit?

    @Nikunj
That's right, $80/yr price will be a recurring price.

  • If you can double the budget, there are managed database services available (DO & Vultr), these would be infinitely more secure and performant than hosting on a LET VPS

They haven't announced pricing yet, but Onidel's Managed PostgreSQL may be coming out of beta soon. Might be worth looking at.

Running DB on LSW is better IMO.

Can you confirm that 80$/year is recurring, not a first year discount?

So interesting to me how people decide that they need 8 threads no matter if it’s a 9950X or a E5 from 2004
