    Because the guest lacks host CPU passthrough, a large number of performance-relevant features are disabled, including PCLMULQDQ and GFNI (useful for the GCM encryption mode and a variety of ciphers with mathematics similar to AES, respectively). Many security-related features are also rendered unavailable such as SMEP and SMAP (both of which assist in protecting the kernel from executing and accessing malicious code/data in userspace, respectively).

    I've asked the provider to enable passthrough. If they do, I'll post an updated YABS with a new GB4 (GB6 failed to run).

    Couldn't find anything with unmetered bandwidth in Switzerland cheaper than that (except a few hosts which had problems), and PrivateLayer is too expensive to buy from directly. They also might allow exits in the future.

    From other providers, I saw $25/month for 25 TB (HostHatch), €10/month (AlexHost), and $8.88/mo (MLNL). Packetra offered the equivalent of roughly €9/month for 33 TB/month via 100 Mbps unmetered which seems in line with the others

    Now, if they end up unable to enable host CPU passthrough, I'll be annoyed and might end up trying for a refund, since some features that are currently disabled are quite important.

    The CPU passthrough has been enabled, it actually should have been as I said in the PM with you directly, for some reason the template was not properly set, this has been don e now. Hope it will be to your liking :)

    Because the guest lacks host CPU passthrough, a large number of performance-relevant features are disabled, including PCLMULQDQ and GFNI (useful for the GCM encryption mode and a variety of ciphers with mathematics similar to AES, respectively). Many security-related features are also rendered unavailable such as SMEP and SMAP (both of which assist in protecting the kernel from executing and accessing malicious code/data in userspace, respectively).

    GB4 benchmark shows only a small improvement, but that makes sense because it's an AVX2 benchmark anyway. Cryptography applications (especially those using GCM) should show a significant improvement.

    Important security features are now enabled, including SMEP, SMAP, RDRAND, and RDSEED, as well as important mitigations against microarchitectural side-channel attacks. So now I'm happy. :)

    BuyVM with 10g uplink in Switzerland, you can use more than 33TB per month very easily on the lowest plan (512mb ram plan 3$/m afaik) also comes with DDR5 and Ryzen 7950x or similar....

    BuyVM with 10g uplink in Switzerland, you can use more than 33TB per month very easily on the lowest plan (512mb ram plan 3$/m afaik) also comes with DDR5 and Ryzen 7950x or similar....

    BuyVM is heavily over-represented on the Tor network, which is my use-case.

    Fair enough, but 1 core 2gb ram with 100mbit for 100 euro per year is insanely overpriced

    At least on LET! But most of the alternatives seemed to be roughly similarly-priced, plus-or-minus 15 euros/year or so. At least the alternatives that were suitable. Of course if I find cheaper, I'll add that as well, since more servers never hurts!
