CloudCone took my $11, promised a refund, then read my LET warning and still ghosted

TL;DR: Paid $11 for a VPS. No stock after payment. Promised refund in 7-14 business days. Over a month later — nothing. Three recovery channels all dead-ended. Even a pre-LET warning email was read and ignored.

The timeline:

  • Late June: Paid $11 via Alipay (UnionPay credit card). Immediately told "no stock available." Support promised a refund within 7-14 business days.
  • July (weeks of chasing): Ticket #1470108 — repeatedly asked for status. Agent Sabry A eventually closed the ticket and told me not to open any more.
  • Three dead-end recovery channels:

    1. CloudCone ticket → closed, ignored
    2. Alipay 95188 dispute → rejected, "contact the merchant yourself"
    3. Bank (BOC) chargeback → bounced back to Alipay, circular dead end
  • July 27: Sent a courtesy warning email saying I'd post on LET. The ticket was opened (someone read it) ... then marked "Confirmed" again. They read it and decided not to respond.

Why this matters:
It's $11 — I'm not crying over the money. But their refund policy is a lie. If they treat $11 like this, imagine what happens with a larger order.

Lessons:
1. Send a pre-sale test ticket before paying. If support is slow, that's your answer.
2. Use PayPal, not Alipay/credit card — at least you have a real dispute mechanism.
3. CloudCone's "7-14 business day refund" means nothing.

  • Quick update — I can confirm CloudCone read my LET warning email (they opened the ticket right after) and still chose to ignore it. Ticket #1470108 status was changed right after the email landed. Will attach the ticket log screenshot if I can. Just a heads-up for anyone considering them — their refund policy and support are not reliable.

So they never provisioned the VPS, right? Or was it just late?

@wenbinxtt Our billing team responded to ticket #1470108 around ~5 days ago.

Your request had NOT been ignored, and the billing team processed it as soon as it reached the front of the queue.

Payouts are processed in the order they were submitted, and everyone's requests will be completed once it reaches its turn in the queue. There is no action required from your side at this stage.

We appreciate your continued patience, as well as that of others.

I think your time would be better spent fixing the fact that my SC2 VPS has been stuck in a reinstall for over a week.

After all the data on my CloudCone VPS was lost, I purchased an SC2 VPS because it was supposed to provide automatic backups and better stability. Instead, you were forced to migrate the infrastructure, which caused several days of downtime. After that, the SC2 network suffered packet loss almost every day, forcing me to temporarily move my services to another datacenter.

When I came back to SC2 and reinstalled the system with automatic backups enabled, you announced on the very same day that automatic backups had been disabled due to stability issues. Fine, I can accept that.

What I can't understand is why my SC2 VPS is still offline after more than a week. I was told the reinstall would be handled manually, but another two days have passed and nothing has changed. Most of the time, it feels like I'm talking to a bot rather than your support team. All I get are the same generic, copy-and-paste replies.

Are you on holiday? From where I'm standing, nothing is getting done.

At this point, I'm honestly curious how much longer this is going to take.

    update:

the day after i posted this, JadenW contacted me through my LET inbox and asked for my ticket ID. the reinstall issue was resolved shortly afterward.

    regarding compensation, they stated:

“As your server was unavailable during this period due to the reinstall issue, I have forwarded your case to our billing team to review and apply the appropriate compensation in accordance with our SLA.”

    Ticket: #3676379
    Subject: rebuild OS failed
    Status: Acknowledged

  • Selling out-of-stock inventory and then holding the cash hostage is a classic low-end host trap. The '7-14 day refund' timeline is usually just a stall tactic hoping you'll eventually forget about the charge. Solid PSA for the rest of the forum!
