Wish I could afford this thing. I don’t know what I’d do with it but it’d be nice to have it.

  • Bump price drop 1700 euro with just under 5 months remaining.

  • just under 4 months remaining, price 1200 euro.

  • price drop, 700 euro with over 2 months remaining.

A machine exclusively for the wealthy

  • Do they negotiate the bw? 250TB storage for 500TB bw is 2x storage. I need more, can I?

Inbound is free, it's a good deal.

  • Hey guys server is available again. 3000 Euros 6 months remaining. Renews at 1350 euro semi annually. High cost is due to setup fees, 40gbit and nvme drives upfront.

That's probably part of the problem.

    Thanked by 1zejjnt
  • Bump still 3000 euro for 6 months. Rrp is 400+ euro per month. Renewal only 1350 every 6 months.

I've been thinking about your sale since I first saw it a couple of months ago...

The machine as a whole is nice. The only question with the server (from my point of view - and just my opinion on the machine... not worth more than that...) is that it's actually somewhat unbalanced on things that would be very nice if they'd actually come together... and that's probably why it's up for grabs since January.

    That's because:
CPU - it's 40 cores, yes, and 80 threads, but a Xeon Gold 6138 at 2 GHz. In itself it doesn't help if e.g. one was to use it as a hyperscaler, I saw the difference in demand on our end on the 2660 vs 2695 v4 around a year ago, and that's only 1 generation before these Gold CPUs...

RAM - 128GB RAM will be short for CPU and disk capabilities, it's unbalanced. It should be 256GB (from a balanced system perspective, not from a sales perspective - again, it's just my opinion), especially since it's DDR4. ZFS alone for example can eat a crunch of those 128G for ARC. Doesn't help as it could for local LLMs as well (where someone could have an usecase).

Disks - 16TB NVMe is great to have both some fast cache to the HDDs and some fast backup storage. For an hyperscaler, it's overkill (because you'd be RAM limited before anything else), but it's excellent capacity. Disks... 16 is a true lot, and I wouldn't put them in RAID 0, you have chances of doing there a very nice RAIDz3 or even 1:1 mirroring (would give 144TB available, still excellent) for extreme backup provisioning.

Network - 40 Gbps is great and very fitting for the price, but only 500TB outgoing (around 1.6 Gbps sustained outgoing for 30 days) is very small to e.g. serve as a cheap x86 router, even on a premier network like RoyaleHosting's in AMS, which is top-tier. It will also use a relevant portion of the cores at the Xeon Gold. You could probably fare better if you could have at that server e.g. 20 Gbps unmetered. That could make it easier to be sold for such a purpose.

This makes for a great server for video production teams or massive data repositories looking to have fast backups and high compression on them. Or you (or someone else) could sell ultra-fast backups on 40G and charge for those accordingly, I'm sure we'd all appreciate those speeds for our backups. Even if you were to mirror 1:1 that'd still be 162TB and at a cheap 3 euros per TB it'd still be at least 486 euros monthly on a server that costs you 250 - and that's before compression.

If you did 6 for the premium of the 40G connection and the fast disk speeds and responsivity with a RAIDz3 it'd still be cheap like hell for the speed and service and you'd be looking at up to 1392 euros monthly from a single server, again, without compression. That right there pays you a whole company or an European minimum wage without breaking a sweat.

Just ideas. If I could be of any help, that's nice. :) My 50 cents.
