ON VPS (Krypt by VPLS) Review: Forced migration from $20/year VPS to $40/month plan before renewal

Hello LowEndTalk community,

I would like to share my recent experience with iON VPS (Krypt by VPLS) regarding an unexpected billing change on my long-term VPS service.

I have been an iON VPS customer since 2019, and my VPS was originally purchased with yearly billing.

Original VPS plan
Provider: iON VPS (Krypt by VPLS)

Service ID: *

Hostname: *

IP: 98.126.19.*

Original specifications:

1 vCPU
2GB RAM
40GB SSD
1TB bandwidth
Debian 13
Billing information:

Billing cycle: Yearly
Recurring amount: $20.19 USD/year
Next renewal date: 02/09/2027
Payment method: PayPal
The service was prepaid and active until the next renewal date.

However, on July 31, 2026, I received a support ticket from Krypt informing me that my service would be changed effective August 1, 2026.

Their message stated:

"Effective August 1, 2026, your service will be upgraded to our current base plan with the following specifications."

The new plan they assigned was:

New forced plan
Plan: iON Pro 1

Specifications:

4 vCPU
8GB RAM
160GB SSD
5TB bandwidth
Monthly billing
$40/month
The issue is not that Krypt adjusted their pricing for new customers or future renewals.

The issue is that:

My existing billing period had not expired.
I did not request any upgrade.
The plan and pricing were changed without my approval.
I was required to accept the new pricing or the service would be removed.
New invoice
The new invoice for the same Service ID shows:

Service: iON VPS Cloud - ion2

Period: 08/09/2026 - 08/08/2027

Original plan:

1 vCPU
Debian 13
2GB RAM
40GB SSD
1TB bandwidth
Invoice details:

Service amount: $459.81 USD

Price override discount: -$20.19 USD

Total: $480.00 USD

This means my VPS price changed from:

$20.19/year

to:

$480/year

This is approximately a 24x price increase.

I understand that hosting providers may need to change pricing, discontinue old plans, or migrate customers to new products.

However, in my opinion, pricing changes should apply to future renewal periods or require customer agreement, rather than modifying an already active prepaid service period.

I contacted support regarding this situation, but the response was that the new pricing would apply and the old service would be removed if I did not accept the new plan.

I am posting this review because I would like to know if other iON VPS / Krypt customers have experienced similar situations.

Questions for the community:

Has anyone else received a forced upgrade or mid-cycle pricing change from Krypt/iON VPS?
Is this common practice for their legacy VPS customers?
How did existing customers handle this situation?
I recommend existing iON VPS customers check their billing accounts and support tickets carefully.

  • Another reason to never pay yearly especially when it's a shady provider without any
    reputation on hosting forums.

    Everything is so wonderful.

I encountered the same situation. Their reply was: "Your service has been updated to the new pricing of $480/year, effective August 1, 2026.

The remaining prepaid credit from your previous annual plan has been applied toward the updated pricing." This is completely an unfair contract term. Is there an effective channel for complaint to help us protect our rights in this situation?
