Virmach VPS is down and I don't think it's coming back up

My Virmach VPS is down and I don't know if it will be back up. I was planning to renew it but well if it doesn't goes back up I probably won't.

The only problem is I had a DB running in the server and I don't have backups, it would be nice to get it back just so I can back it up but seeing there previous open issues in network status report tells me I should not have any hope.

Did you miss the memo about VirMach?

Congrats on your first post since September 2015!

yup I did miss it as I haven't been active in hosting communities. My vps was just sitting there unused for more than 2 years, I started using it actively in past 2 months and now this happens. It's like they were waiting for me to start using it :)

The short version is that @VirMach have been MIA from the forum since July 2022 and their services have been very hit-or-miss (for most users, more miss than hit)

That said, technically, they're still in business, so your issue would be worth a ticket, but you should also be prepared to be (exceptionally) patient

    Yesn't.

It's quite honestly a 50/50 it comes back. Good luck.

Thanks, let's see how it goes. For some reason I can't even open a support ticket but I will try again.

Edit: I created the ticket and got an AI response. Let's see if they respond or not. I asked for system image backup as I am only concerned about the data if I can recover it

He's sometimes active on the OGF if you want to try him there.

There are people waiting for their San Jose servers to swim to Tokyo for like 6 months or some shit. I wouldn't hold out hope here.

    FWIW

    • i recently got my yearly invoice (which suggests that @VirMach still is in business and operating)
    • My VM (NL) not only is running fine (just checked) but has in fact an uptime > 1 year

My VPS is down since the IP change 2 months ago. Server is inaccessible and rescue mode doesn't work. I tried everything, rebooting, reconfigure network, etc.

But just now I hit reconfigure network while in rescue mode. Thank god the rescue mode suddenly working.

I got my files back. Nothing important though, because it was just a url shortener I hosted for private usage.

MY VPS with them are working... but I dont treat them as "Stable". I have like 7 with them

  • It is said that the founder of Virmach is already in his coffin.

Nah! I already lost it, I am in the market looking for another cheap yearly VPS but this time I will have backups every day (lesson learned hard way) as they can go down anytime.

Any good providers which also have some cheap offers on going?

What's your budget and requirements for the VPS?

1cpu + 1GB ram is enough with 20GB ssd. yearly cheap plan

I also received an invoice from Virmach for free sharedhosting from years ago. The service ended like 6 years ago.

Receiving an invoice doesn't mean anyone is home, it's automation.

You probably could have just configured the IP settings months ago instead of needing your hand held. Do they have Google where you're from?

    yes

I don't expect it to come back online anytime soon, if it ever comes back online at all

  • My vps is also down in AMSD017. Was online since the migration to Ryzen and before that for 3 or 4 years. They usually are very slow responding but this time the lack of updates doesnt fare well

Also down - this VPS has been perfect for my project. Sad if it doesn't come back up

  • It will be out of service for half the year!
There are plenty of better options than this one.
