Hmmm, I guess technically it does exist but I can't say I've ever seen ￥used for CNY.
元 is used inside China and bank notes use the full form 圆. In English texts, I've only ever seen CNY or RMB used.
I've also seen 元 used for HKD, albeit rarely (and usually by mainlanders), it's almost always printed as $ or HK$.
Interestingly the Japanese word yen is a loan word from Chinese yuan, and the symbol used in Japanese 円 is a Japanese specific simplification of 圓. So, I guess it makes sense they'd share the same latinised ¥, but as I said, I've never actually seen anyone use it for CNY. Korean won is also derived from the same word.
But anyway, aren't these prices in HKD not CNY? Seems weird for a Hong Kong based company to be pricing in CNY, especially when selling internationally.
HK mostly uses $ symbol and I have never saw computer printed using 元 at HK.
That means their main clientale must be mainlanders. But, it's not that significant because HKD to CNY is almost 1:1. Although, with JPY, it's roughly 20

Yea its silly to use that symbol to represent CNY. If your Chinese use 元 or yuan or RMB. Meanwhile, CNY or sometimes RMB is used in international markets. I'm guessing they don't use HKD because they are targeting Mainland China customers.
Yeah, I think I've only ever seen 元 at markets on handwritten signs. Kind of surprising as it's no easier to write than 文 and I don't think I've ever seen that written down ever, even though it would match spoken canto.
