I would do the same, but unfortunately I live in South America—Peru. Here, it’s common for the power to be cut off for 10 hours on Sundays because they perform maintenance on the power grid; otherwise, I would have had my data center a long time ago. Without power for 10 hours, batteries don’t give us a competitive edge over the U.S. right now.

I don't selfhost much apart from that. No selfhosted password manager or email or serious stuff that I could break.

I have my OVH API thingy running on a VPS to detect new releases of limited edition servers, that probably counts as selfhosting.

oracle free 23ai db - maximal db data 12GB - more than enough for millions of rows

i think solar panels+batteries+starlink are good way to start a mini datacenter there. Also run on arm architecture, a few watts is all those arm chickens need.
