Planning to take a $50/mo 10Gbps Kansas City dedi for Seedbox slots – looking for early commitments
Hi everyone,
I’m a Chinese programmer who likes buying servers and building services on them in my free time. I’ve been using and experimenting with various setups for a while.
Recently I saw a dedicated server listed for transfer on another forum:
CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1270 v6 (4C/8T)
RAM: 32GB DDR4
Storage: 4 × 8TB HDD (32TB raw) – drives have relatively high power-on hours
Network: 10Gbps unmetered
IPs: /29 (5 usable IPv4)
Location: Kansas City, USA
Price: $50/month
I’m considering taking it over and turning it into a small Seedbox service (shared slots). Before I commit, I want to gauge real interest first.
Preliminary plan (open to adjustment):
Split into roughly 6–8 slots (depending on final usable space after RAID)
Target storage per slot: around 2–3TB
Price idea: $12–15 / month per slot
Includes basic apps (qBittorrent / ruTorrent, etc.)
Payment via crypto preferred, other methods possible
What I’m looking for:
If I can get solid interest from at least 4–5 people who are willing to pay, I will:
Take over the server
Live-stream / document the full setup process (RAID, Seedbox panel, isolation, etc.)
Build a simple payment + management page
Start selling the slots
I’m not looking to make big money — mainly want to cover the $50 cost and gain some practical experience running a small shared service.
A few honest notes:
Location is USA (Kansas City), so DMCA risk is higher than NL/FR.
HDDs are not new, so I plan to run RAID6 for safety.
This is a small personal project, not a big commercial operation.
If you’re interested, please reply with:
How much storage you roughly need
Preferred price range
Any features you care about (Plex, specific apps, etc.)
Also very welcome any suggestions — better pricing, different slot sizes, RAID advice, panel recommendations, or anything else. I’m open to feedback.
Thanks for reading. Looking forward to your thoughts.

No.
I am interested but only under the condition that the entire process is done transparently; the software and payment system must be developed publicly through livestreams, with every part written by hand and without any AI assistance.
This approach would require showing the full development process, including the planning, coding, testing, debugging, and implementation of the payment infrastructure without the use of generative AI.

Why RAID6 and not RAID10? Are they that old?
Yeah they’re quite old. Prefer RAID6 for dual failure protection since the drives aren’t new.
