Does Spaceship ever fail to renew a name?
A long time ago I acquired domain reseller accounts with couple big registrars.
Through long time resellers (even bette if personal friends) it's possible to get some pretty decent child reseller accounts.
I still just keep a majority of domains within those. I sprinkle the rest around some among other registrars and a couple at the registry directly.
I never had problems with Ghandi and ClounDNS has been good. They don't compete with/like the rest so much on domains, but some things are worth the extra cost, sometimes.
..I have forgotten sometimes, despite reminder e-mails and ended up paying the premium ressurection cost, durrr.. but WTF. My own fault.. paid, learned to use a calendar again and manually renew everything so I know it gets done.
I'm a bean counter though and don't use auto-pay for anything that allows my rejecting it.
..and there is always a few domains I want to further protect from my own accidents, which I renew for 5-10 years. Probably saving a measurable amount in the long-run and I may be dead before renewal anyhow, so my AI self can deal with it.. w/o auto-pay.
There is also this one similar to what the Hosteroid made app doing

I’ve been using Porkbun, Netim, and Dynadot for quite a long time. You might consider transferring your domain to them.
If its that important, you renew for max 10 years and you set calendar reminder to manually login every year afterwards to renew +1 year so at any given time it'll have 9-10 years before expiring. Relying on auto renew invite shenanigans with card decline, card expire, even registrar billing bugs and shit.
Other reasons.
