How good is the data locality? If you'll primarily be doing bursts of reads/writes on the same set of n gigabytes at a time, you could use a very fast caching n-byte NVMe and then a slower HDD in a hybrid configuration.
But that would be fun to configure, no? It's either manual tiering, LVM with PE granurality or out-of-tree bcachefs
You'd only use bcachefs if you're creating the filesystem. You can use the in-tree bcache driver.
I find it easy enough to configure dm-cache (which is what LVM uses) anyway.

Well, not completely different. They were written by the same guy and have some shared code, but bcache operates on the block device layer and is filesystem agnostic, whereas bcachefs is a full filesystem.
