No joke. Really. Lets see if this is feasible.

Any location in EU, it comes with USB-C Gbit ethernet and a 45W power brick.

I have 3 unused with broken display or keyboard that should still do fine as servers (1TB SSD, i7-6700HQ etc.)

    You'll probably want to have the battery removed from it as I imagine most datacenters wont be pleased with a lithium fire hazard sitting in a rack

    Good point, yes i remove them and they boot fine with a short.

    They do.. but some Macs absolutely cripple the CPU.
    Example. My early 2011 with its Sandy Bridge true 4 core, is forced to 800mhz and will not go to its base clock or turbo until I insert a battery.

    It is EXTREMELY miserable.

    Also this is real, i buy a "new" used Macbook like every year due to Keyboard or Display issues...
    It should be a ok server forever.

    Actually that’s an Intel decision.
    The same happens on a HP Elitebook 840 G5. Although you get 2ghz and 0 efforts to turbo.

    Edit: tempted to see what happens on a Yoga X1 Gen 6 Tiger Lake

    Edit 2: a Yoga X1 Gen 6 with a i7 1185G7 will meet max turbo on all cores at 4.6 before expiring and going down to 2.8. Without a battery.

    Old laptops are perfect Soho servers. They are super cheap as e-waste and have always a few minutes UPS, with their internal battery and low energy usage. Only data centers don't accept them as they are not easily managed and there is a fire hazard.

    Datacenters will colo anything on a shelf, we had a 4U shelf "storage" in Hungary long time ago when i had a Full rack colo at Victor Hugo, i remember also putting cash and valuables in it. DC is just another vault. Storing valuables in DCs is also cheap compared to banks.

    more likely to be around $100-$150 for a minimum of 1 hour unless your DC kindly offers free finger presses

    a quarter rack in any major EU city is the cheapest option to store something very securely im sure, bank like security at much less cost
