  An interestinng concept, so you run a node for the chain of the coin i presume? How does this matter on XMR which is pretty much anyway by design anonymous AFAIK?

  Sadly not everyone can be as cheap as the biggest hosts on the market, some of which have millions of customers to spread costs across. Among privacy focused companies we're actually on the competitive end. I know plenty who charge more, and some who charge a lot more. And I can tell you honestly that margins on shared hosting are thin, at least on our side.

  Having been in this industry a long time, I can also say that running a privacy focused host is a different beast than running a regular one. You're operating your own BTCPay server, handling a large share of payments in crypto (with all the accounting and conversion overhead that comes with it), and dealing with a few other things I won't get into here. You can probably imagine the overhead involved.

  There's also no economy of scale to lean on. The privacy hosting market is small, so fixed costs get spread over far fewer customers than at a mass market host. That alone explains most of the price difference between us and the big names, and between the cheaper and pricier privacy hosts.

  It's a small market, but we love it.: )

  I do value the opinions here. I watch a lot of LET threads myself and appreciate how honest people are. Feedback is always welcome.

  We run our BTC node on our infra, and XMR as well through a plugin on our locally hosted BTCPay server. Even though XMR is private by design, the checkout still matters.

  With a locally hosted BTCPay server it's you to us only. There is no middleman gateway in between that receives your information when you check out, such as your IP address, the wallet it came from (applicable to BTC, not XMR), invoice ID, or any other metadata these gateways store. Instead it's just you to us. It's an extra layer of privacy.

  Everyone should do that. Chainalysis could deanonymize Monero payments that used Chainalysis nodes, and they don't tell you which ones those are.

  Didn't Monero change the way the decoys are selected so malicious nodes could no longer influence them even when used with a light wallet? Even with a light wallet and a malicious node, you're (mostly) safe, and the existing attacks (like the EAE attack) are pretty conditional. It's a bit of an exaggeration to say that they could just straight-up deanonymize transactions.

  But yes, you should still run your own nodes. It does improve Monero's privacy (and it helps the network).

  Absolutely. We are currently setting up our own hardware, colocated in a datacenter in Turku, Finland. It should be done within a couple of weeks. We will make sure to create a post on LET once we have finalized it.

  The Switzerland location generally works better within Russia than our Finland location. We still have some Finland IP ranges that work well in Russia, but not all of them. When clients have run into trouble, we've typically resolved it by either reassigning their VM or, for shared hosting, migrating them between locations if the location itself isn't a deciding factor.

  As I mentioned above, we're deploying our own hardware in another datacenter over the next few weeks, and we're hoping that will bring both our Finland and Switzerland locations to a similar level of connectivity for users in every country.
