  We know pricing changes are frustrating, it wasn’t an easy call to make, but it’s entirely down to the massive increase in server hardware and data center operational costs lately.

  We're sorry you had to cancel, we totally understand that pricing changes can affect whether a service still makes sense for someone. Existing customers can still lock in their current rate for one year with annual prepay if they choose to stay.

  It comes down to replacement of the SSD and RAM when (not if) they fail. I know you mentioned 140%, but realistically it's an 800% cost increase on those specific parts. We didn't choose a set percentage, we increased cost based on real world operational increases for specific parts in $ value versus percent. These are simply pass through expenses that we're averaging across the fleet.

  Cost increases suck, but at the end of the day, you choose either an upfront increase or business loss (much higher cost) through a catastrophe when your hosting provider runs out of replacement parts because they were banking on things calming down.

  Lead time on parts is now in excess of 3 months. Data center space is next...

  I appreciate the reply and you bring up an interesting aspect but i sadly still can't fully follow this. There's still no actual time frame and it's not like those parts are going to fail for every single server out there (at least not in the foreseeable future - jeez i have servers running on 12 year old disks and they are perfectly fine).

  At what rates they are going to fail or what percentage of users tends to push them hard enough to (predictably) fail at all is something that only you know. The actual impact can't be calculated with the data available so maybe it'll come down to those 140% (i'm going by the guy above going from $21 to $51).

  I see the overall idea behind it though. There actually is hardware costs even during the operation. Maybe i actually am a bit of an idiot no matter if the whole calculation checks out or not

  p.s.: If SSDs are that much of a factor it might be worth thinking about cheaper alternatives. I'm not a market researcher but my feeling is a lot of people would rather stick to smallish rust spinners than take some kind of 100% hit. How that looks on the energy side of things is obviously another question.

  Canceled all my servers with ReliableSite. I assume plenty of other people did too, and now they're sitting on a pile of old servers trying to sell them for 3x what they originally cost.

  Sooo... no thanks. I'm not falling for ReliableSite's shady business practices anymore. There are much better providers out there offering similar prices with newer, far better hardware.
