  • You will also need good DDoS protection for that kind of projects.
Guaranteed you will have that coming in this grey area of "business".

That's customers headache. I have a customer who wants to buy.

Can you accept Betting site? No complaints?

    Not me, just my recommendation.
They are in the Netherlands, have a good uptime and also provide DDoS protection.

    That's why cloudflare exist

They are not exactly friendly to that kind of business, until the first few scam reports.
Or unless you are super regulated like the big player casinos. I personally reported a few
dodgy crypto pump and dump sites and they were removed in 48h.

    No hidden cost.

Yeah, the betting part adds a couple pit falls to the whole thing. Gambling is something most governments care about way more than stuff like piracy after all.

CF will happily host your "research chemical" store or warez without even batting an eye, but on Gambling you have to ban US IPs or you get fucked. US cares more about gambling than drugs or piracy.

Of course they will happily provide backend data legally to the FBI and also legal for non US citizens via the CIA which was an early investor in CF.

Nowadays either you ban US users, Operate semi legal in like Cyprus or Antigua, or just host in Russia blocking Russians and deal in crypto.

This is obviously possible, but do you have a source that or is it just (reasonable) speculation?

Why not a dedicated server from a cheaper, more mainstream host and a reverse proxy from a privacy-friendly VPS? Then if there are too many reports, you only lose the (relatively cheap) VPS instead of the expensive dedi.

The CIA is a public first day investor in CF, this is well documented and not denied by either.

So? That's still speculation (i.e. that they would only invest in it if, in exchange, they got backend access). Again, I have no evidence to the contrary, but I was wondering if you had any evidence yourself.

I personally think it's much more likely that any access they have is unauthorized, PRISM-style.

  • WilliamWilliam Member

We dont know that and it is irrelevant, the CIA has unlimited authority against US companies if the user is NOT a US citizen since long before even the PATRIOT act.

It trades as In-Q-Tel (INQ) and has a lot of investments in the hosting world.

Ah, that makes sense. I'm quite familiar with In-Q-Tel. They invest in a vast array of companies. It's just a VC that invests in anything that helps promote America in any way, and a company that helps stop non-American-originating DDoS attacks is certainly something that they would invest in. That doesn't mean they have any control over Cloudflare through investment.

It's the same reason that the US government has donated to Tor: It helps them because it helps people bypass firewalls from countries that block US propaganda. And Cloudflare is the same (it makes life hard for national firewalls).

Well, TOR has no US gov investment, it was directly invented by it.

As said, the CIA investment certainly makes it easier to access data but is not needed if the target is simply not American and thus has no rights anyway.

@William said: Well, TOR has no US gov investment, it was directly invented by it.

Actually it was onion routing (the concept) that was invented by the Navy. Tor itself is just an implementation of that technology. It's akin to the computer mouse (invented by DARPA) and a particular Logitech mouse.

@William said: As said, the CIA investment certainly makes it easier to access data but is not needed if the target is simply not American and thus has no rights anyway.

I really doubt it makes it easier. The US government has more stealthy ways to access telecommunication data than making above-the-table deals. And they'll access data of Americans too, even if they're not supposed to. ;)

Betting sites can cause abuse complaints.

There is tons of this "betpuan" clones. If its that, have fun.

While betpuan is not even legal all by itself in turkey, there is some turk living in Dubai sending you DMCA notices (stating US law) and he thinks hes the shit.

AI generated abuse complaints will come telling your upstreams in CC that you are a cybercrime syndicate and shit like that. Making up alot of bs.

Betting seems to be all the rage these days with Meta pivoting to become a massively huge betting platform. Your client will be in great company.

Betting and gambling in general seem to be everywhere, some futurologists believe that betting is the future. The trend is well established already.

Yes, but they block US users. Similar to ex-CIS (Russia etc) US police is not interested investigating things it cannot access at all.

This is the case in many, many countries.
