Toronto @ RackNerd/ColoCrossing problems with network speed

edited June 16 in Providers

has anyone had any issues with network speed as of late with these 2? i guess it's same DC... i have exactly same issue with network speed dropping for 12-15hrs a day to a measly 5-15mbps.. i have opened ticket with each provider, both are stipulating that there are no issues.. please, friends, can you confirm my "suspicions" or deny? BTW I have VPS @ ALL OTHER LOCATIONS offered by both providers, and zero issues there. and even this problem has been so for the past 2-3 weeks only.

here are visual charts from munin :

and here are speed test results for both.. remove the 2xOntrario locations, upload speed is not what i signed up for.. or am i just imagining this? i just don't know how to prove to the providers that i'm not a camel..

code is not formatting this readable, so i removed actual reports and just URLs here.. .

    Something with bad routing?

  • You need mtr's. It's decent enough to leave the datacenter but outside of Toronto it sucks a lot.

Their network becomes worse and worse. Even been with them for 6 years, but maybe end up by the end of this year.

update: i ended up switching Toronto VSP both at Racknerd and Colocrossing to NY/Ashburn. now getting proper good speed at all times. not sure why their canadian speeds are so bad,, both insisted in tickets that i was on shared 1G and anything can happen, basically.. well, i agree and such, but when anything keeps happening day after day, - it's time to act.. both companies had zero issues moving those VPS to a diff location. I had to reinstall everything, but it was worth the time spent./

Well yes, when you don't provide mtr's they can't troubleshoot much.

when they insist on total 100% normalcy, it is hard to prove anything no matter what you got...

It's really not. You did no troubleshooting, you just said "here's data" lacking details. Nobody knows what the expected traffic should be or with, traffic having peaks and lows while people sleep or work is expected.

Troubleshooting outages is 100% on the provider. Troubleshooting throughput issues is on you as the admin of an unmanaged service.

i mean, don't get me wrong, i'm all for a good mtr, and deluxhost can confirm i've submitted quite a number of mtr reports there over the course of nearly 1 year with them.

ah;. why am a defending myself to you? you're right, i am a noob and it's on me, my own fault, etc, and so on. i simply went the easy way, given as i need about 10min to get a new VPS working for my cause. writing messages to them trying to explain what munin clearly registered was beginning to eat into my TV time. so when 1 offered to replace and the other agreed when i asked them to replace, i figured it was easier and a helluva lot faster than even running proper back-and-forth mtr tests.. mind you, they didn't ask for it either.

and btw @TimboJones if you check my discussions, you can see there's one where smart admins clearly figured out i was an idiot and a noob, so you can treat me samesies, if you haven't yet.

Saying you're not bothered to or don't have the time is 100% fine. I'm all for prioritizing TV time over troubleshooting when there's alternative solutions. I will straight up say I don't have time or desire to do it. Just don't fucking pretend or lie to yourself that you put any effort in when you didn't.

In the end, basic troubleshooting helps to prevent the situation where the problem continues because the problem is elsewhere or coincidence, etc.

word "effort" was used only once in this thread. please don't begin to assume that you know what i lie to myself about.
