Traffic Preference (new poll)

aluyaluy Member, Patron Provider
edited 10:54AM in General

please vote again sorry

Option 1: Monthly traffic quota
You get a set amount of traffic per month (e.g. 2TB). If you go over, your port gets throttled or you can purchase additional traffic.

Option 2: Fair use (shared bandwidth)
No hard traffic limit, but bandwidth is shared with other VMs on the same node. Speed could be throttled if impact on others.

Option 3: Guaranteed unmetered port
Dedicated port speed with no traffic cap (e.g. 100–200Mbps).

Option 4: Something else / hybrid
Have another idea? Drop it in the comments.

  • I don't understand your poll. It's too complicated.

Poll options are hard to understand. Maybe post with examples.

  • Why don't you post some real deals as examples of the poll options?

  • I guess it depends. Usually i'll probably prefer 1 but 2 would mostly work too. 3 would be kind of a niche situation.

You are mixing up traffic and bandwidth options. Say, I chose the first option – do I get guaranteed or shared bandwidth to consume my quota?

You are right, i shouldve mentioned that its for VPS which would be shared on all options. Its a good question if option 3 would even be possible with my pricing. Im not sure how others do it :'(

It depends on the use case of course.

Most of my servers do not require much bandwidth and generate very little traffic, so I would probably go with option 3. That way I know what I get, no risk of any over usage charges and I'm usually not even close to needing that kind of bandwidth anyway.

not sure about 123 but ill go with 2, 100Mbps-1Gbps is enough for me. for 1, il say 10-20TiB is enough for me. 3 however is fine

1 or 3 is the best option. I'm starting to get annoyed by hosts saying Fair Use but there is no clear definition of what is considered fair. Different hosts may have different definition.
