I wouldn't recommend at this stage. You are better off going with something like Scaleway, OVH, or Hetzner Auctions if your goal is cheap.
They've been around for literal decades. They were mostly known for their aggressive bait offers (which would at least double in price like 1, 3 or 6 months in) and generally seen as scummy. I haven't really had them on my radar during the last ~15 years.
Seems they dropped the baiting and price wise an E3-1280v6 at $25 and no setup isn't half bad (very, very close to OVH bargain level actually - no idea about Scaleway but Hetzner doesn't compete in that segment anymore in general). I obviously can't comment on service or network but in any case it's a very old provider that likely know a thing or two about what they are doing.
Because it is
Strasbourg, France - it's one of OVH's DC.
Similar config - 32/64GB ram, and 2x500 SSD or 2x2TB HDD.
I wouldn't touch anything that's a part of GoDaddy's empire, I'd suggest steering clear..
Nope, they use DataDock in SBG and St. Louis. Old Plusserver DCs but I'm not sure who owns them now.
Also, GoDaddy sold Velia and Server4you back in - I think - 2023 to - I think - mostly old managers of the comp. So they are not part of HEG anymore, which is indeed a GoDaddy company.
Also note that iirc in 2024 the SBG DC was down for a few days...
And: the pricing listed on the main page is for a 24 month contract paid upfront.
website says
HEG US Inc.
210 North Tucker Blvd, Suite 910
St. Louis, MO 63101
United States of America
Good find. Now the question is: does HEG US Inc is still part of HEG (HOST EUROPE GROUP) - that is owned by Godaddy? Or is HEG US Inc owned by Velia/Server4you now?
E.g. Northdata shows for Velia Internetdienste GmbH that Godaddy is not involved anymore... and Server4you GmbH owned by Velia Holding GmbH.
But the BBB claims that HEG US Inc is still owned by Godaddy..., see here: https://www.bbb.org/us/mo/saint-louis/profile/web-hosting/server4you-0734-310573398 (that is for Server4you in the US, not Germany).
And Godaddy itself says this:
https://aboutus.godaddy.net/newsroom/company-news/news-details/2023/GoDaddy-Sells-velia-and-Server4You/default.aspx
interesting
but does not help much in deciding if you want to order anything there.
My last experience is from like probably 5 years ago when they were still a GoDaddy arm.
Slow setup. First got the server delivered in the wrong DC, even wrong continent, but they fixed it after some days, billing support slow (but at that time it was under the HEG (in Europe) umbrella), so cannot so say much about today. Not what you recommend to a friend (at that time) but also not the worst in the world.
OT: Has anyone checked the HEG VPS conditions in regard to FUP or traffic policy in Singapore or India?
nice chicken. They were much more expensive not too long ago.
