This is actually common practice for many modern cloud and VPS providers. Disabling direct root login and using a default user with sudo privileges is considered a security best practice and is the default behavior of many cloud images (Ubuntu, Debian cloud images, AWS, Azure, etc.).

And if you prefer direct root access, you are generally free to enable root login yourself after deployment.

That's the right approach—I went ahead and configured it to allow root logins myself.
