Looking for cheap Storage VPS under 20$ per year

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a cheap storage VPS for file backups and VPN.

My requirements:

  • around 200GB (HDD is fine)
  • Europe preferred, Netherlands, Amsterdam is better
  • Reliable provider
  • Budget: around $20-$30/year

I've already looked at providers like DediRock and MassiveGrid, but I'm interested in other recommendations as well.

What cheap storage have you found recently?

Thanks!

    The cheapest storage VPS options I've found so far are Servarica's KVM Hybrid plans and NovaCloud's Storage VPS plans:

    https://novacloud-hosting.com/vps-storage

    not EU based and may not work for VPN usecase but I've been with interserver for a while and it's solid, specs/value are pretty decent

    with tw-20 code: 1 core (gold) / 2 GB RAM / 1 TB HDD -> 2,4 USD/mo

    If you want dedicated resources for cheap, take dedi from online with 1tb hdd or 250GB ssd for 5 euros/m with 250mbit unmetered bw.

    If you don't need dedicated IPv4 then @backtogeek TierHive https://tierhive.com/ should be able to provide what you're looking for

    TierHive (@backtogreek) is a good option if you don't need dedicated IPv4 https://tierhive.com/

    Do you really need a VPS? Because if storage is the purpose then HostBrr DA storage boxes would fit you nicely;
    https://my.hostbrr.com/order/main/packages/BF2025/?group_id=63

    $7.77/y for 500 GB, $16.5/y for 1 TB

    (Feel free to use aff link in sign if you're going for one ;) )

    I'm looking for something similar. HostBrr looks interesting, but never heard of them before - I'll do some research.

    How to access HDD slow storage? I cannot find it in the server after selecting it.

    Only available when creating a VPS in London or Vint Hill USA right now.

    Hopefully storage options will be available in Singapore and Poland too soon and then all 9 locations by the end of the year.

    Short answer: give it a file system and mount it.

    Longer answer:

    run: lsblk
    You will see that you have /dev/vdb, which is your slow storage.

    If you want it to be mounted at /backup for example, then do:

    mkfs.ext4 /dev/vdb
    mount /dev/vdb /backup

    Then add it to your /etc/fstab to persist through reboots.

    If you are genuinely stuck, just pop a ticket in I will help more directly.

    Cheers.

    I have a storage server from both of them, and I highly recommend them. Servarica's disk is slower (4k: 25MB/s, 1m: 500MB/s) than Novacloud's (4k: 73MB/s, 1m: 1.96GB/s), but other than that, they are both amazing value for ~5 dollars a month.

    However, stay as far away as possible from Deluxhost. They used to have SSD caching, but they removed it one day without notice, and now there is a lot of disk latency and my speeds are 868KB/s for 4k and 158MB/s for 1M.

    I recommend DediRock and HostBrr, they're really cheap.
