Ugh, Jellyfin is absolute dogshit compared to Plex. The FOSS part is cool and all on paper, but it’s always a hit or miss feature-wise practically. Especially if you just want a set it once and forget type setup. Been playing around with Streamio+Custom plugin for my own media library playback, and it has worked like a charm. No transcode BS or slowness or an gazillion other issues, and zero load on the server. This, in the light of RealDebrid deciding to screw customers with their recent file name filtering shitshow, has been a lifesaver.

  • Got it for 40 bucks a couple of years ago. Absolute steal

This price increase is insane. I am glad when I bought it for 60 euros. They just want to get rid of lifetime pass and want you to go with monthly subscription.

A Lifetime Unraid license is much cheaper for much more functionality (OS vs app). Whoever is running Plex ain't doing it efficiently.

I’m running a lifetime Plex Server off my Lifetime Unraid instance. Also beat the price rise on the later.

Not worth it at all, ridiculous half of the basic features now are behind a paywall, but $750 for plex is wild, hopefully this will push even more development to jellyfin.

For those on iOS/MacOS, Jellyfin + Infuse gives a 100x better experience than Plex.

Yeah, I bought the lifetime license a long time ago, totally got my money's worth and that's with the old pricing. I haven't looked into/tried alternatives because of that lifetime license. I'm just hoping they don't end support for v1 and come out with v2 or some other "new product" where the lifetime license doesn't work/apply to it. If that ever happens, I'll probably go back/use kodi right away while I look into alternatives like jellyfin and such.
