We migrated to Hostbill a few months back, the constant WHMCS price increases and lack of real support when issues crop up (normally when they release a update) and the standard either pay for a priority support to get a quicker reply and advised "its out of our scope" we cannot advise any further isn't great.
Since we moved to hostbill the support has be A+, we had custom work done by them and even a few months later we wanted a small change and that was done within a few hours at no extra charge. Yes the initial cost can be off putting but overall what you spend on WHMCS you easily save in a short time not just in terms of money but also time you would spend having to debug issues or conflicts between modules that third parties create which one blaming each other. The switch cost around 1400 euro for us for a licence and some custom work for modules we needed that had not yet been created.
Blesta
Because it chose me.
Blesta, it's mostly open source and you can create own plugins easily. Also the community support is quite good.
Currently using WHMCS for production since it’s stable and already does what I need.
At the same time I’m building my own billing platform slowly behind the scenes 😄
Big project though, so probably another year or year and half before it’s fully ready.
For now I can probably survive one or two more WHMCS price increases before I finally migrate
We use CE and we are satisfied with their fast support for many years now.
WHMCS, because I'm a masochist.
I hate Hostbill as an end user. Not a single provider I've ever ordered from that uses Hostbill has a good client UX. Same with Blesta.
Sticking with WHMCS until something truly better comes along. We do sponsor FOSSbilling though: https://fossbilling.org/ -- Hopefully it matures into a suitable replacement.
Can we call WHMCS stable?
@armandorg (AALayer) has some improvements for Blesta UI available but not sure how active development is anymore.
use CE and Blesta both robust and both have their own pros....for instant blesta hay advance credit support where as CE has partial support for it. Blesta have been growing and expanding features fast where as CE was stalled for many year and just now they have picked the pace with ver 7.
Paymenter since its open source and good in all honesty it has a good community alot of extensions & themes and its quite easy to develop an extension while being free (i donate to the creator every month) which makes it obviously used alot by summer hosts however its a good billing software hence why i use it & support it
Currently, WHMCS is a good option; however, we have been working on building our own panel for a few months now—progress is slow, but we are aiming to have it ready shortly.
I use Blesta.
I have a license for HostBill but when I tried creating a ticket for a custom module for licensing my products & such for Blesta/WHMCS/etc they have never responded yet.
Not really something I wanted to pay $999 for a Developer Kit for Hostbill and then realize you really cannot create anything but internal products only for yourself.
So I have just been staying with Blesta for the most part until I can either figure out how to build my own billing system or find the money to pay for a Lifetime Blesta license or something.
Thanks for the mention! It's updated for latest release of Blesta.

It seems I will build billing software using a plugin system for you guys.
Save my comment for the future 🙂 ..
I mostly use FistBill. It's very no-nonsense. You should check it out.
Blesta forever.
Blesta v6 coming out in few weeks with new admin, and v6.1 in client area UI and also AI agent in support/dev is being implemented -https://www.blesta.com/2026/05/04/blesta-6-ai-preview/
Euw
What type of features is it missing that prevent it from becoming a suitable replacement?
All in with Blesta, since WHMCS does not comply with E-invoicing at all since 2 years, and many more things, numbering invoice for refund it’s should be a continuos number and tag.
Whmcs because im stuck on it.
Will be moving this year to Blesta
Blesta is still on our list but the issue we have are the missing modules and plugins. The whole migration process is also not smooth and we miss also here mapping files for the migration.
Damn, they really bit hard on AI psychosis:
was using WHMCS earlier but now 1/2 years perfectly using Blesta & really love it. Because I can do what I want to do with blesta, design/plugins/modules, anything I can build myself.
You tried or you did create a ticket? You can't expect them to respond to a ticket you didn't actually submit. Then, I'd expect you to follow up with a $999 investment if they didn't respond in a reasonable timeframe.
I did submit a ticket.
They have not responded, and I am not wanting right now to move everything from Blesta over to Hostbill just to spend that much $999 in investments for right now.
In-house solution (AKA just using Stripe)
I use both Blesta and WHMCS, and in my experience Blesta is much better. One of the main reasons I have not yet moved to a fully in-house solution is that Blesta’s open-code structure makes it easy to add, modify, and customize almost anything we need.
Blesta isn't a commercial product?
It is, hence 'mostly' open source. The core file is encrypted but everything else isn't.
