All .de domains broken
Frankfurt am Main, 5 May 2026 – DENIC eG is currently experiencing a disruption in its DNS service for .de domains. As a result, all DNSSEC-signed .de domains are currently affected in their reachability.
The root cause of the disruption has not yet been fully identified. DENIC’s technical teams are working intensively on analysis and on restoring stable operations as quickly as possible.
Based on current information, users and operators of .de domains may experience impairments in domain resolution. Further updates will be provided as soon as reliable findings on the cause and recovery are available.

Damn, that's crazy lol. Bad day to have a business on a .de domain (even Hetzner.de uses it)
Yeah I noticed it when my hetzner storage box stopped working.

Redundancy, at least on LET, sadly not for DENIC

lol for some reason it is working for me. I guess it's not using dnssec?
It's just dnssec signed domains... So probably 30-50%. Notable number though.
Your upstream DNS has the record cached I'm assuming.
plus those using authoritative DNS servers under the .de TLD
Fuck... Netcup.de down!
I stand corrected... You're right... That's probably a way higher %!
Meanwhile...

This is terrible, I feel sorry for all the people here on LET who will be losing millions per minute because of this. Fortunately I did not buy any .de domains or I would be on the losing end too.
Stay strong guys.
It's ridiculous how much stuff is broken because of this since it affects APIs just like websites as well. Apps don't work, you can't get your luggage from the locker at the train station or even book a ticket. Some payment apps don't work. I just hope this doesn't have any impact on the healthcare sector and their "smart" medical devices.
I know that this is sarcasm, but boi. The on-call service, they are fucked, if impacted. First they are called for a external DNS error and second, their bosses will mostly not get that
Bank app not working, I can confirm.
Looks like they fixed it.
Can confirm.
Yea, a lot of services are impacted and the best part, even when fixed, we would need to wait for DNS propagation
The only thing that is really bad is when a smart medical device wouldn't be working because of this.
I agree... Tried some logins, working again. Not sure about banking app... Cant be arsed
They would probably be set to use dns with a very low TTL but every second down would be concerning indeed.
... is a seriously dumb thing. Lets be honest about this. A medical device that only works when things are great but instantly fails in case of an actual large scale disaster is just some weird nonsense right in the middle between greed and plain stupidity.
It seems they got it working again
I guess that will be a relief to all the pacemaker users whose devices were stuck on resolving ptbtime1.ptb.de for a couple of hours. They can now sleep well again... err... they already are. Strange.
I highly doubt it was ever used for this purpose as the BSI recommended against using it for critical applications.
Hmm, i am not sure how i can explain this, sorry.
Funny serial btw in above denic screenshot. Unless of course that TLD was created in 1778 and there were only minor modifications since then.
germany broken / down finally!
Didn't you know that denic was actually founded in the electorate of Bavaria and used to be administrated by the imperial postal service? From what i hear it was a pretty close call between .ba, .de und .öu
