unusual ovh question
in Providers
"Hey, I know this is kind of an unusual question. When I was younger I made a stupid mistake and disputed a charge I had no grounds to dispute — totally my fault, bad call on my part. I know they typically permanently ban for this kind of thing, but has anyone heard of them giving second chances? I really wanna try some of their servers and I've matured a lot since then, learned way more about tech and servers, and I'm positive it won't happen again.

Why not just call or email them and ask?
Try to place a order and see if they validate your order.
Or make a new account just make sure you aren't using vpn or it gets flagged instantly.
I don't think they got my email I haven't got an answer
my whole email is blacklist I can't make an account with that email address anymore
well I guess you gotta make a new account now.
I don't see why a new account wouldn't work unless they run very strict KYC or whatever. OPs home address likely changed in the meantime anyways so unless the same email address is used there is very little to cross reference by (the world is full of people having the same first/last name combination).
Paypal might be a bit of a problem (not sure how easy it is for merchants to ID a specific account) but from my experience many companies don't really look at payment data anyways and at worst there is also the option of CC. The biggest question would probably be if its worth to attempt Paypal first given there is at least a chance to burn the account by doing so.
OVH isn't that strict so OP can easily make a new account. Just need another email. They don't care if your Paypal name is different from the account name. They just save your paypal email. With address, just look up homes in the your area and use that address.
What branch did you contact, or what region are you in? OVH, despite their flaws, actually has real people handling everything still unlike a lot of other comparable companies... so at least someone will be able to talk to you directly.
my home address changed, can't they see the name on my card
Good point. I didn't think about how the chance of a provider actually sending snail mail is practically zero anyways.
I don't think that is a problem. There are plenty of payment processors that don't even require you to enter a name just card number and expiration date, etc
i know ovh does from what I remember
I guess the only way to know is to try it and see if it works
also do they look at your phone number? Because I remember you have to type that in as well when creating your account
Outside of the microscopic chances of someone here being an undercover OVH employee i doubt anyone can give you a definitive answer to that. Phone number makes a pretty unique and easily comparable identifier though so i'd avoid reuse and rather get a virtual number (probably not ideal due to regularly being associated with abuse) or a burner SIM. Might cost you a couple $ but its probably the wise choice in this situation.
Again, try it and see. Don't just ask questions that will ever get a proper answer here. Imo, OVH shouldn't be that strict in terms of PII, one could even have the same phone number across 2 different accounts and still register just fine.
Let me tell you a story ......... many many Years back (around 15), i had a requiring payment with OVH, was abou 500 usd . I didnt Recognize the payment, so i called the Canadian billing department, and talked to a very sweet accountant with name Alexandra see confirmed that the payment looked like a mistake so they initiated a refund.
The payment arrived in the card and shortly after that OVH charged me again ... being a bit annoyed i called Alexandra again , this repeated about 5 times with me being very upset with poor Alexandra that had no fault on the phone.
1 week after the firth re occurrence i realized, there was a mixed up and they had refunded this payment by accident before from another legit payment... so i actually owed that money to them.
They didn't block the account, and i for never called poor soul Alexandra again, till now i still think i should have apologized since that was actually money i Owed to OVH
interesting story.
I think they do have ID system though or kick
they dont ask for ID unless you get flagged by system. I was able to register a EU account last year with no id check even though I am not from EU and name doesn't match the account name
What would an ID system be anyways? Just don't give them a reason to be suspicious (like signing up using VPN or something similarly stupid) and all they could do is try to crossreference the data you supply. If checks are still as lax as described by @concept chances are you'll be fine.
Im guessing using something like Stripe to verify identity.
so, what are the odds of them randomly disabling my account because they found out in the future even if my account passes the checks? I don't wanna be paranoid in the future
Again, there won't be any definitive answer. Just a bunch of people guessing.
Anyways what you are really asking is: Will they keep poking around my data? Well, what do you think? Do they gain anything from doing this? No, they don't. Continuously trying to uncover some skeleton in your closet, which for all they know likely doesn't exist anyways, is nothing but lost time and money to them.
As long as you keep paying your bills they won't have a reason to notice you at all. Even if you somehow act up there is nothing to be gained for them by snooping around. Lets assume you didn't pay your bill, they ran like 50 extra super in depth checks and found your old account. Now what? Double kick you?
This is a company with 1000s of clients. They try to protect themselves by (somewhat) keeping bad apples at the door. They aren't bouncers priding themself in having remembered your face and removing you from the premises even if you managed to somehow slip by. There is no human factor. Once you are in and sending them money you are profit. Nothing more, nothing less.
From what I've seen and experienced, they don't disable accounts unless its serious violation. They just won't deploy any of your servers if you try to deploy it. It will fail the validation step that it does every time you buy a new server/vps. They aren't as strict as Hetzner.
Find another dealer dude !
wow it's been a while since I've used them, I like their new interface
that is new, most people hate ovh panel.
