UK VPS for Wireguard with routed IPv6 prefix

behukbehuk Member

Hi -- I'd like to set up a small VPS to run Wireguard so that I always have the same external IPv4 and IPv6 addresses no matter what internet connection I'm actually using. So far I've been VPN-ing through my home connection, but it's looking like when I renew my internet package I might lose the static IP (unless I spend £££ on a business-tier service).

Must have a routed IPv6 /64 (or larger!) so that I can use IPv6 within the tunnel as well as IPv4, and so that each device that I connect to the VPN can have a public IPv6 address.

Must be located in the UK, and preferably London. My home network has ~4ms ping into London and I'd like to avoid increasing that too much when I need to be on VPN!

Minimum 1TB of transfer, on a minimum 1Gb/s port.

Other than that I don't need much in the way of CPU / RAM / disk / etc. It'll only be me using this (and perhaps e.g. my partner) so I don't expect to hammer the network, but clearly this is one of the more network-heavy use-cases :-) I'd anticipate paying annually (or longer), but I might start with a 1 month term to verify that all will work as I expect.

Thanks in advance!

Is this an on-link subnet or routed subnet?
If you don't understand the difference, it's likely on-link and would not satisfy the request.

    Budget VPS UK 1 — £14/year (18.99 USD)
    1 IPv4 Included

Does this plan have /64 too?

Also, the following deficiencies are found in the https://uk-lg.vm6.co.uk/ looking glass:

    • Ping: Error: API request failed: Failed to execute 'json' on 'Response': Unexpected end of JSON input
    • MTR: mtr is not installed on this server.
    • BGP Lookup: it's described as "shows AS path, origin AS, and announced prefixes" but the result lacks AS path.
    • (note: target for above tests is 2606:4700:4700::1111)

Apologies for the rushed Looking Glass setup, I get these issues resolved by this afternoon. I can confirm it is onlink not routed so would have to use NDP proxying.

And your right the budget range don't include /64 but watch this space!

I am sorry I answered this just before I went to bed and scaned acrossed the routed bit.

We offer WireGuard tunnels with a /56 IPv6 and one IPv4 (you can order bigger subnets as well) routed inside the tunnel. The only downside in your case is that our PoP is in Germany.

You can check it out here: https://www.ip-fast.net/services/vpn/

I think that Mythic Beasts can do this: https://www.mythic-beasts.com/servers/virtual

I'm not too familiar with their VPS offerings, but for email they have been fantastic to work with. I've been a customer for many years.

If this were a profitable venture then I'd definitely consider Mythic Beasts as they're definitely great to work with -- and I'm pretty sure they'd be happy to give a routed subnet in addition to the "regular" on link subnet. Unfortunately their pricing would work out as £82.80 per year :disappointed: (can't be too disappointed as they need to make money and aren't really in the LowEnd market, but...).

@Clouvider / @hosthatch I hear you might be able to help -- any chance of some special pricing? I know it's a cheeky one, but if you don't ask... ;)

We don’t have any socials at the moment - but I can confirm we do /48 routed :).
