That is kinda brilliant. So the whole idea of "Its fine to build technology which makes decisions based on criteria way beyond the level of complexity the human brain manages to follow is fine because it won't hurt us as long as we tell it not to do so." was bullshit after all? It was told, it knew but just (seemingly on "a whim") decided to ignore it.
I figure it probably comes down to not telling it to "Not ignore what you were told and also don't ignore that you were told to not ignore what you were told, which you shall also never ignore." and so on, and so on, ...
