High bandwidth usage

I have unusually high bandwidth usage and don’t understand how this happened. Over the past half-month my average bandwidth was about 1 Mbps, so how could the VPS control panel report 2 TB transferred? The web panel’s network-history chart also shows a fairly steady ~1 Mbps.

What should I do?
Thanks!

have you tried using vnstat on your vps? it won't display the total use since it was not installed way before. anyways, the VPS control panel can be wrong hence i do not trust it.

Make sure your server is not compromised.

  • Double check you're monitoring the current Ethernet interface.

Does the control panel show the constant bandwidth still being used?

  • you can use some tools like iftop, nload, and vnstat to monitor traffict on the vps

Ensure that your VPS contains only your data and no third-party information or others. And monitor the system carefully.

  • I monitored the traffic for a few days. All is good. Hmm...

I will move the websites to another server, to check it further.
