Here is the procedure to reset your root password:

    1. Access the VNC Console

Log into your VPS control panel and launch the VNC or HTML5 Console. This allows you to see the "screen" during the boot process.

    1. Reboot and Interrupt GRUB

Send a reboot signal via the control panel.
As the VPS starts, immediately click inside the VNC window and tap the Esc or Shift key repeatedly until you see the GRUB Boot Menu.

    1. Edit the Boot Entry

Use the arrow keys to highlight your kernel and press e to edit.
Find the line that starts with linux or linux16.

Move to the end of that line and add: init=/bin/bash

Note: If the line says ro, change it to rw to ensure you can save your changes.
Press Ctrl + X or F10 to boot.

    1. Set the New Password

Once the terminal prompt (#) appears, run the following command:

    passwd root

Enter your new password twice. You won't see any characters appearing as you type; this is normal.

    1. Finalize and Reboot

To ensure your changes are saved and the system starts correctly:
If you are on CentOS/RHEL, run: touch /.autorelabel
Type: exec /sbin/init or simply reboot the VPS from your control panel.

Have you got any other access apart of KVM? Or you trying to hack machine with compromised KVM access?

It sounds like OP has access to KVM only so no control panel access as highly likely server belong to someone else.
