I use Windows at my desk and macOS any other time, currently prefer macOS as it doesn’t annoy me by updating itself 🤣

Debian 13, XFCE. Tried and true.

Tried to do GhostBSD as a desktop but sadly the package managers all seem to be incredibly slow and I sort of lost interest. Guess I never thought much about it before, was always used to Debian and related distros like Ubuntu having global mirrors. Then, try GhostBSD in a local VM and I can't stand waiting 20 minutes to install htop or something. (Been several months, I forget the exact details but after a 72hr test period gave up). May try some other variants in the future. Nothing I do really requires anything specific to Debian/Linux and everything I use is natively available or ported to *BSD, I believe.

2 work laptops, 2 personal laptops, 1 personal desktop all Windows 11.

Work VMs are all some flavor of Windows Server. All personal VPS/dedis are Debian 13.

I haven't tried to run a desktop on Linux in quite some time. Maybe it's time to try again.

I'm curious—is the performance boost from CachyOS's unique v3/v4 instruction set optimized packages significant?🤔

If it were possible, I would very much like to switch back to Windows 10 LTSC; however, on newer hardware platforms—particularly those featuring Intel's hybrid "big-little" core architecture—there are some issues regarding driver compatibility.

Although I spent several months trying out Windows 11 IoT LTSC 2024, I found that whenever I left the system sitting idle in standby mode, the fans would suddenly start spinning furiously—it was absolutely driving me crazy. :s

  • Debloated Windows 11 on my laptop,

Outdated Mac at the office, version 10.6.8 due to software for work compatibility

I suspect LTO and PGO is what gives it most of its performance gains, not v3/v4.

It appears that kernel scheduling is more important than "instruction-set-optimized packages."

I found some users are using to implement CachyOS kernel scheduling on Arch and its derivatives.
