Hey Everyone. If you have questions or anything. We can reply here, you can also send me a direct message through LET or through a sales ticket on Packetra.com.
We would be happy to answer any questions.
Do you demand KYC for refund of crypto payments?
Their ToS includes answer:
From your AUP:
That's actually not true. Under both Finnish and Swiss law, there is no liability for traffic passed through an exit. It's still totally legitimate to prohibit it because it does come with nasty administrative burden and IP reputation / blacklist issues, but there are no legal liability concerns in the EU. Props for the transparency though, and for explicitly allowing non-exits.
Perhaps in the future, you could consider selectively allowing exits for customers with SWIP, which would eliminate the administrative issues as well as IP reputation issues (because the customer would be bringing their own IPs).
Are you sure it didn't change with EU DSA introduction?
Yes. Tor hosts nothing and indexes nothing but merely acts as transit. Most of its rules only apply to for-profit services with a certain threshold of active users, anyway.
There was some talk about this on the Tor mailing list a few years ago IIRC.
seems hetzner
It looks like Finland is Hetzner and Switzerland is Private Layer.
Can not use billing portal without JavaScript, very disappointed. You should consider numbered accounts similar to how some actually privacy-focused VPN providers do. You should also consider accepting cash and offer BSD iso's.
Interesting considering you don't even have a privacy policy, it's just a 404.
What's the company behind Packetra and where is it registered?
Hey Void. If there would be an issue from our side and you would be unhappy then we would deal with that on case by case bases even though our stand is not refunding crypto payments. We use Coinpayments which does not ask for KYC when dealing with refunds.
Hey Obelous. Its been fixed. Apologies!
We have headquarters in Helsinski in Finland and the team that built the company are all from Finland as well.

Hey Yuki,
First, regarding the JS part, unfortunately the billing solution we utilize is Whmcs which doesn't function properly without JS so we can't offer a non JS portal.
Regarding payment options we do offer crypto currency for privacy oriented clients but at this time there is no Cash By Mail option, we may provide that on a case by case basis for longer cycles in the future.
Regarding BSD, this we can definitely amend as we are always adding more and more distro options to 9ur VM platform selection.
We will definitely add soon FreeBSD option.
We welcome all constructive criticism to improve 😊
Hey @forest thank you for the feedback on this, definitely something that could be considered in the future, but you are right the administrative burden is a real one. All Constructive criticism and interesting suggestions is valued 😊
You should consider changing billing system.
Is Monero one of them? Do you use a centralized privacy counter productive payment gateway like Cryptomus or a more privacy friendly solution like self hosted BTCPay Server?
I use exchanges such as Pegasus Swap when sites don't accept Monero. It's worked every time. Because it requires no registration or personal info, it doesn't negate the privacy that Monero provides.
We are quite comfortable around WHMCS and it's tools and hooks, thank you for the feedback on this
We accept Monero, we allow all clients to sign up with an email address which is only so we can communicate invoice due. We accept all crypto payments at this time through Coinpayments gateway but Monero and by its design is anonymous. We don't know anything more about our clients than they give us anon signups or full info, entirely up to you. At this time we do not have another gateway such as BTCPay server although this can definitely be on our road map for the future as we add more options through time.
Hi Yuki,
I just wanted to let you know that we've templated FreeBSD 14 and 15 as an option, thank you for your suggestion it is well appreciated.
Are prices with VAT (25,5 %)?
Hi @tux, to clarify, Packetra's servers are located in Finland and Switzerland, each operating within their respective jurisdictions. The company is incorporated in Hong Kong, but user data is stored exclusively in Finland and Switzerland. We do not charge VAT on our services. Apologies for the confusion, I tried to edit but the window had lapsed.
its hetzner, NOT interesting
Completely understood, not everyone's cup of tea! Personally operated multiple servers and several storage boxes there for years without issues, but we all have different experiences and priorities which is great
👍
hetzer is great ! but most of us already have hetzer

While I am well aware of such exchange companies, I do not wish to support a server provider that is unwilling to adopt Monero. It might not negate my privacy but it funds middlemen, centralized payment gateways like Coinpayments and Coinbase which go against the core principles of cryptocurrency, it's decentralized nature.
While I very much like the fact that you accept Monero due to this, allowing others to purchase servers anonymously, I implore you to consider my above response to forest when when deciding where on your roadmap to put "Stop supporting companies that act against the decentralized part of the internet"
This is definitely something, we may consider on our roadmap to introduce a method such as BTCPay Server, at this time there is no ETA on this but I honesetly take whatever criticism as long as it's constructive and put in our roadmap ideas and notes. As you saw, adding the FreeBSD as a very positive addition.
It's noted and I wish you a good Sunday
I don't know if I like these offers - an i5 for this price on a 1GB port - my2cents
Hi @Yuki_ I know this thread is now a bit old but we wanted to update you as well as anyone else that may read this that we now accept XMR/BTC via BTCPay Server self-hosting of course. It may have taken a bit to set up and get sorted but Packetra now accepts direct transfers via non-custodial option.
Thread is however old, there have been other changes made during the past month such as prices and hardware changes, just wanted to let people know we heard you
Another Hetzner reseller. Get atleast your own ASN.
