@oloke @onidel
Are the major version upgrades possible? Or is it a manual process for now? Are minor/patch version upgrades automated?
Move away across the pond. Problem solved
Stop inconveniencung people for your own benefit
Yea man
The animals have been killed off! It’s now Mini, Small and Medium.
RIP Quokka
@oloke, I demand explanation.
The product name is cute, why the change?
Poor buddy 💀
AnimalLivesMatter
I need them back 😩 @onidel @oloke
Free beta with backups and encryption is a nice hook, but yeah the real test is how it holds up once people start throwing real workloads at it
it's all VMs, so if your DBs run fine on our VMs, they will run just as well on our managed DB. The only difference is that we handle the installation and maintenance for you.
all will be automated.

ok got it
any idea on pricing yet?
having another poke around.
If plans will have a Max Connections at go live, any chance to track that on the metrics page so you have an idea sort of where you’re operating?
For databases, but I guess this could apply to managed storage plans too, is there any sort of notice as you’re using up your space so you don’t unexpectedly run out? The Account settings on the notifications tab has notices for bandwidth use, but unsure about managed storage/db disk quotas.
Niceeee @onidel managed DB is a great addition.
Not yet. As with every product, we will do our best to keep it affordable while not compromising on quality
Great suggestions actually. Thank you!
We've just rolled out another update, addressing feedback and adding a number of requested features.
You'll need to provision a new service to use these functionalities. Existing services will be terminated this weekend.
TL;DR:
Some pics:
great work
Do you support cdc and is it still possible if i get early access today ?
Also what happen after Beta end
cdc - not at the moment.
you can request access via support ticket.
the services will be reprovisioned after the beta period.
With the old DBs getting deleted I’ve looked at dumping a DB to an SQL file and reimporting via the web UI.
First time I attempted a restore I had created a DB and User with the same names as my original instance. I got a failed error on the first upload attempt. Seemed generic and not sure what went wrong. I reran for the same SQL file immediately after and it worked the 2nd time. The first failure is stuck in an “uploading” status with no logs or anything to say whats going on there. Been in that ‘uploading’ status for 30+ mins.
Proceeded and got my service all working but. I like the new permissions manager via the web UI.
Decided to give the restore another go against a seperate service instance to see if the above errors would repeat. This time I created the DB of the same name but forgot to add the user. Restoring the SQL file gave me an error that the Role didn’t exist. I added the user and attempted again and this time got an error that some structure was already present. So looks like potentially the first attempt failed only partially and then left a partial load behind. Unsure if the is desired or if there’s a way to roll things back in such a scenario so there isn’t a partial restore. I guess I could use the snapshot feature (, or as I later do, delete the database and start over). But possibly the first attempt could have identified the missing role and created it for me? Dunno.
After the previous 2 (partial?) failures, I deleted the database but left the user. Recreated the DB and attempted a restore again, and this time it uploaded the first time and there was no errors. Sweet!
I did notice through this too that the button for ‘Import’ doesn’t always seem to enable itself after I select a file to upload. In particular saw that after getting a successful upload. If without refreshing the page I select another DB and attempt a second import, the button remains disabled. Refreshing the page gets that responding again.
On the Configuration page is auto tuning drop down now. There is a default selection of ‘Web Applications’ but there’s nothing expanded there on initial page load, you just see the drop down menu. Being that I was using a web app I selected that option and again, no feedback. You have to select a different database/app type in the list control to get all the various suggested optimisations displayed, and then change the selection back to ‘Web App’ if that’s the one you want. Given web app will be a common option and the lack of initial UI feedbacks not ideal, suggest having a default drop down selection of “Select App Type:” maybe so that users will always select into one of the options and trigger the UI update event. Alternatively, if ‘Web App’ is the default, show the expanded optimisations on page load. I’d think the former option might be better, given there’s currently no confirmation if you then look to make changes. At lest that way it becomes a 2 step process to deliberately select the optimisations from the list and then click submit. Maybe a confirmation is worth adding here but anyway.
On the same configurations page, maybe allow individual edits from the ‘advanced configuration’ too, rather than needing to reapply everything at once using that drop down template. If you’d made multiple edits you’d have to reapply each to the left side manually first before hitting submit.
Also have the parameters on the left and in the advanced section ordered using the same criteria, so it’s easier to compare. Right now the lists are ordered differently.
thanks for the detailed feedback. how large is your sql file? it could be the import process was killed before it finish. i will see if i can reproduce this.
Only 4.4MB. Pretty teeny tiny.
Can give a projection on pricing? How do you handle super huge databases?
Any plans for MongoDB?
Since Plausible (analytics) uses it, might also throw ClickHouse out there.
Any plans for London or Ireland?
Any GA ETA?
