[Warning] ChunkServe - Service DOA & Entire Billing/Support Portal Offline (502 Error)

Hi LET,

Just a quick heads-up for anyone considering ChunkServe. It seems they are having a major infrastructure meltdown.

The Experience:

Instant Failure: I purchased a VPS instance less than 24 hours ago. It was "provisioned" but has been completely inaccessible (No SSH/Ping) from the very start.

Support Ghosting: When I tried to reach out to find out what happened, I discovered their support and billing system is completely down.

The Evidence:
I’ve attached a screenshot showing their billing portal throwing a 502 Bad Gateway error (Host Error).

Summary:
They took the payment, delivered a broken service, and then their entire management portal went offline. While it was only a small amount (~$25), the lack of transparency and the "Blackout" of their billing system is a huge red flag.

If you're looking for something reliable for your dev work, stay away for now. This looks like a "run for the hills" situation.

Has anyone else been able to reach them, or is the "502" happening for everyone?

What hill they ran into ?
So many posts already about their slow response & occasional billing or vps down. Just wait it out.

  • Great, someone warning this shit ChunkServe finally.
    I am also a victim.

Yeah it was down for me too, but it's back up. Sadly I'm still having an issue where the VM spontaneously goes into an offline state and I have to manually enter the Virtualizor panel and start it.

I think the owner is just in over their head and a bit inexperienced, but I wouldn't call a brief 502 a "major infrastructure meltdown".

  • You are doing well then because I cannot start mine from the Virtualizor panel.

  • Sometimes the billing panel is alive, sometimes it's not. Ill give it 24 hours for it to fix itself. Server works fine for me

Very thoughtful brand name, considering service availability is in chunks.

I was doing well. Now I cannot start it either ("the operation could not be completed").

Sad. I wish we knew more here - what was going on. I got off to a poor start in that the YABs for mine was terrible about 60mb/s 4k read write. I complained to the guy, with the specs he was advertising, it should be a lot higher. It took him about a week and he got back to me and told me that something was misconfigured that he had fixed and disk I/O jumped to around 180mb/s.

  • I got an answer to my ticket this morning informing me that the issue was fixed with an apology, and the site is fixed for me now.

    Hey!
502 error on the billing site was related to a mass-scale DDoS attack on our billing infrastructure. A lot of request "passed" through cloudflare WAF, overwhelming PHP worker that is used by WHMCS. Because of that, such error might apper. I am sorry for the inconvinience and tomorrow will implement additional WAF rules (we were testing it on our .pl domain).

Regarding ticket - I belive I was handling such error yesterday. It was related due to IP allocation problem. I totally understand that it might be frustrating - even combined with support page inavaliability. If not, I'll reply tomorrow when sorting out all tickets.

    Hey!
I see it's trying to boot but it reports "no bootable disk". You did not change anything in the partition scheme/made bootloader upgrade/changes, right?

Completely unprofessional behavior, followed by continued disregard. Vps still not working from start

    Hey,
you raised a ticket, server seemed to be deplyed without any issues. When I started it on Proxmox, I saw such error. I wanted to make sure, that nothing there was changed. That would tell me, if we can either fully re-create the server or there is ANY data there that needs to be preserved. I am sorry, however every time before "destroying" the server, I need to be fully assured that I am not removing any important to customer files by mistake.

When creating a ticket, only such information was provided " Vps offline and not working. Reboot not help". You did not mention that "server is not working from the moment of purchase" - then my action plan would be to straightforward re-create it. Without such mention, I firstly would like to confirm that there are no important files or some "progress" already made on the server.

You created a ticket at 29.03, got a reply after 5 hours. You replied at 21:10, and around midnight got a reply from my side. You are receiving prompt replies, so I do not understand your concerns about that.

New vps not working too 51.38.158.33 :)

  • My VPS is still not working - neither the original instance nor the new one. The issue has not been resolved since the moment of purchase.

Also, I would appreciate more frequent updates on the ticket. Waiting close to a full day between replies is not acceptable given that the service is completely unusable.

  • Lol, you start to get annoying, after short time.

Is this you? are you gonna use this VPS for abuse too? :)
