Freedom.gov

naas1201naas1201 Member

Hi Folks,
what do you think we should/could expect from Freedom.gov ?
I am thinking obfuscation vpn to be downloaded from there ? Or would it be like a proxy site we could connect and by some magic connect to any other site using freedom.gov as a proxy ???

Do not trust any government with your data and traffic, especially not my government.

There's lots of ways to bypass censorship and regional restrictions on your own, with full control. Or there's private VPN companies that have specific VPN options/configs for censorship bypassing (I think even Mullvad has options for it?). Much better options than whatever the hell this is.

Yeah, there are definitely better ways. Like buying a vps from ExtraVM with cash and setup your own VPN.

Sure lol but there's a lot of VPN companies that makes it easy to get connected and take crypto too. Idk what this thing will be, but I just can't imagine it will be any better or more secure than a proper VPN. That or it'll just be a list of companies who paid a bribe.

Anyway, anyone wanna bet it'll be connected to a government Palantir system? :)

There are plenty of sketchy vpn companies already.

The only problem I have with using one of those popular vpn is you will always get hit with captcha and recently been having issues accessing LET. The connection keeps dropping so I have to spam refresh for it to load.

There’s decades of research into internet censorship and advanced firewall systems.

The idiots behind DOGE almost certainly have never interacted with any of it, and are probably going to release a shitty product that gets fingerprinted instantly.

It's almost certainly for their own fingerprinting and tracking uses, come on now.

I would expect a rebadged cloudflare warp client tbh.

  • LeviLevi Member

Of course honeypot. Wtf do you think else? Is this Z gen thing to think that 2+2 = 10 ? Because I'am from gen which thought that 2 + 2 = 5, it wasn't. That's why we have Trump, ru, AI and >7$ situation now.

  • Noted on all this. What i got from this convo is you folks don't trust it.
    I hear you.
I am trying to help with the french situation (censorship accelerating bc of Europe) and i admit that i would love freedom.gov to be a better warp client, as warp now suck from europe. (recently) (Or am i the only one experiencing that?)
Anyway thanks for the feed back, i asked a question and i got my answer: Don't.

Would rather see the EFF or other large privacy organization take this role, or people like Brave, Mozilla, etc funding such a project...

It's a travesty how Orwellian some of Europe and even places like Australia has become in terms of policing online speech, but it's not America's place to protect that anyway. We have our own speech issues where certain topics will get you deplatformed and debanked.

Not just not their place, but how could you possibly trust? Are folk genuinely unaware of the shit being perpetrated in and by the USA the past decade+? Wow man.

Much better at bypassing censorship. Not perfect by any means, but by far the most effective.

  • i can't promote tor as my target audience are noobs, and even if yes tor is noob friendly, it's not realistic to think they will stick to tor as the connection loss is way too high. it's like Linux, would love to tell them, look folks, you put linux mint, root your phone for graphne os and swtich to tor via your own proxy or whatever vpn. They will find me intelligent and congratulate me, then switch to the next youtber to tell them to download nord bc it's convenient ...

you can either be pragmatic and assist your users in actual privacy or a piece of shit affiliate spammer, the choice is yours if views are more important

I imagine if your end users are the type to install malware like free vpns on the play store they are already lost, so it does not matter,

Have you used it lately? I get >3 MB/s with it with <1s latency. The only downside is the occasional site that blocks Tor completely.

While i admire the passion I disagree, to me noobs need something convenient and no brainers. To make them install tor immediately would make them give up. Tho if you have any lead on a tor like (or tor itself) way idk that a grandma would be able to rely on, i am sincerely interested. No irony here.
we have an audience of about 50k people that are sensitive to the european censorship, and all help is welcome

I admit i didnt used it with my personal device recently (only remote a lil shadow vps which connection is always buggy anyway)
I will take that into account and try agian, thanks for the heads up

    If really with newbies in mind (the kind who equate internet with "Google" or "the browser"), have them install Opera - comes with free VPN, DNSoverXYZ stuff etc;

yeah actually that's a good idea. But what i am scared is from personal experience. I remember that when they started their vpn with tor it "disapeared" the moment i entered china, so i am afraid they do the same in september with the great firewall of europe
But yes i will mention it as for sure it's good

i read from al idrisi that before the 12th century the arabs used to abduct children from inner africa by offering free dried dates. the kids would ask where did you get them from, the arabs would respond come with me. then the kids would be sold at the slave markets on the shores and some would arrive to yemen and some to india.

at the slave markets female chimpanzees were also sold along with people, you can imagine the purpose.
