Looking for a low end dedicated server
Hello everybody,
I'm just curious and I would like to ask what's your opinion about the low end dedicated server market nowadays? Is there a provider that you currently recommend (reliability, speed, server uptime, trust)? I'm looking for a dedicated server in Europe, from a EU-provider with decent specs for around 15€ a month. I'm planing regular work on linux and testing some linux apps, nothing that will drive the cpu crazy.
It seems to me that OVH and Scaleway are now selling low end servers with - in my opinion - obsolete processors. I must admit the prices are real low, starting from 5€ (scaleway) or 12€ (ovh). But I have no idea if there are better competitors in this price range. I was also looking for Leaseweb resellers, but I couldn't find much, I assume they are more expensive. Oneprovider was absolutely not recommended here on LET, so I didn't bother to see their offer...
Specs I was looking for:
a good processor, 8-16GB memory, 120 GB SD / 1TB HDD, 1GB unlimited bandwidth, under 15€/Mo.
Thank you ![]()

If cpu is not a major priority, you would be better of a vps with latest CPU and 10gbps shared port. I think dedicated server at 15euro a month with unlimited bandwidth is bit difficult!! I have seen providers like berohost, advinservers, layer7 and many others offerring a very good vps which is actually better then dedicated server you are looking for.
Hi @untitled
Unfortunately, I don't think you will be able to find a dedicated server for such low price here. The reason why large hosting companies like OVH or Scaleway are able to offer such cheap dedicated servers is purely because of their scale.
I assume for 12 eur/mo you would be able to get a Kimsufi server on OVH - those are repurposed older generation nodes. There usually is minimal customer support involved (human cost) and the servers are already racked. Not to mention OVH can share electricity and bandwidth costs within their large datacenters.
I think for this price, you would be able to buy a VDS from @layer7 in Europe (France). I'm not their customer myself, but I heard rather good opinions about their reliability.
Thank you for your answer. Do you happen to know if @layer7 have an actual LET-offer at this time? I was also thinking about VDS better than a low end dedicated server
Hi,
i am sorry, we do (current) not run any promotions.
But i am always open to some discounts if there is some meat on the bones. Please feel free to use the configurator and copy-paste the config in a direct message to me and i will see if i can reduce the price.
Alternatively, but its outside of your budget, but maybe still interesting:

thats 19,90 EUR / month but quiet some different kind of specs/hardware.
But for your usecase i definitely suggest going with some virtual infrastructure because of the snapshot feature which makes testing a LOT more convenient.
Sorry for stealing your storage @layer7
