The "Mythical" $2/Year IPv6-only VPS - Does it still exist in 2026?

Hi community,

I'm on a quest for the absolute bottom-of-the-barrel pricing. I’m looking for a Pure IPv6-only VPS for around $2/year (or even less if you're feeling charitable).

Why? Just for some lightweight hobbyist stuff: running small scripts, uptime monitoring, and practicing my IPv6-only networking skills.

What I'm looking for:

RAM: 128MB - 256MB (I can live with Alpine Linux)

Disk: 5GB+ (HDD is fine, NVMe is a luxury)

Network: IPv6 only (I have my own HE tunnels and CF Warp ready)

Price: < $2 USD / Year

Location: Any, but Singapore or EU preferred.

I know inflation is real, but I've seen legends of $1/year deals in the past. If any provider has some leftover stock or a hidden "Easter Egg" plan, please let me know!

Budget is tight, but my gratitude is unlimited. Cheers!

I mean, most here sell KVM.
KVM is nice, way more stable than OVZ/LXC.

However, context switching is a bitch.
@AnthonySmith how many VM's do you got per Node?

I assume that could be an issue.
But besides the overhead issues and the higher resource usage.

Would be nice to see 128MB but for most provider I guess it isn't worth it.

Running KVM with 128-256MB RAM is a bit rough honestly - you'll spend more time fighting OOM kills than actually doing anything useful. Most providers have moved to KVM at this point, and KVM just doesn't play nice with that little memory. The overhead alone eats a good chunk of it.

Our smallest plan is the XEON 1G IPv6-only with 1 GB RAM, 10 GB NVMe and a 10 Gbps shared port for 0.99€/mo. Not quite $2/year territory, but it'll run your scripts and monitoring without constantly running out of memory. skri.me/xeon

    It's hard to believe

  • I understand the OP's needs, because I had a similar need before, and I think @backtogeek's TierHive is a good choice.

The minimum vps configuration is $0.1/m, you can try it for free for one month.

If you are willing to try it : https://tierhive.com/r/7D91B0899523 (aff)

But currently their IPv6 support is still working, I think maybe we need to wait a little longer.

warp-cli might refuse to run on a tiny VM.

Thanks but TierHive is ipv4 only right now, ipv6 is coming though.

    @Neoon I use a different username here :)

Simple answer is, as many as possible until performance degrades, obviously I can't predict in advance if someone is going to spin up a 128mb VPS or a 4GB VPS, how much CPU or ram they will actually use or how much disk they will allocate.

The backend has an automated load balancer, so far no issues.

    https://tierhive.com/blog/tierhive-howto/how-to-run-alpine-with-just-23mb-ram

Alpine can run on 23mb (user space) and APK is still fine, example site (not much content it's just a hacker news clone test right now) https://backtogeek.com that runs on the smallest TierHive VPS with low priority resources for a performance example.

You are right, 100% if you accept defaults.

Sorry, just bad timing, we had a problem, so I just closed registrations, all fixed now and back open.

@forest could use this one. Its NAT but can check if server works for his project.

    Last week :)

We ran to some unexpected issues, mostly my fault.

Originally IPv6 was never going to be in until we got to BETA, I got ambitious.

Plan is to make IPv6 elastic, so a rewrite is not needed later.

Maybe late March but there are a lot of factors so I can't be 100% sure.

How is this going as it's end of march :) ?

I am looking for more like Tierhive but it is mandatory to have IPv6 if anyone else has recommendations too !

  • @Cam comes to mind but don’t know current pricing
