Amsterdam VPS – Low Latency Network (AMS-IX / ERA-IX Preferred)
Hello,
I am looking for a VPS in Amsterdam (AMS) with very low network latency within the Amsterdam metro network.
From some Amsterdam providers I can currently measure around ~1 ms latency, so I am looking for networks that can provide similar routing performance.
Preferred network characteristics:
• Amsterdam (AMS) location
• Strong AMS-IX / ERA-IX / NL-IX peering
• Good upstreams such as Arelion (Telia), GTT, etc.
• Low-latency routing within the Amsterdam metro network
Important requirement:
• Snapshot capability (ability to create and restore VPS snapshots)
For testing purposes it would be helpful if you could provide:
• Amsterdam looking glass or test IP
• MTR / traceroute test from your network
I am open to different VPS configurations — feel free to suggest suitable plans.
Providers with direct AMS-IX or ERA-IX peering are strongly preferred.
Thanks.

@RoyaleHosting @RickBakkr @Hybula
Hey @memok, our AS214481 network is available on ERA-IX. Test IP: 191.96.11.1. I can provide a traceroute to any destination if you let me know the IP
Thanks for the information.
I ran some tests to the provided IP and the latency seems to be around ~5 ms from my current location.
At the moment I am trying to find networks closer to the Amsterdam metro network (~1-2 ms range).
Could you also share an MTR to a host inside the Eranium network?
Hi @memok
We (onidel) upstream to RoyaleHosting and we do support snapshots.
Could you check our Looking Glass?
Thanks for the test.
The routing and latency look very good (~1.1 ms via ERA-IX).
Could you please share:
• which Amsterdam datacenter the VPS is located in
• available VPS plans
• whether snapshots are included by default or optional
Thanks!
Since they are with RoyaleHosting, it would be Digital Realty AMS5.
equinix am5

my VM doesn't have snapshots, so i assume they're optional
Glad to hear!
We also have automatic backups which are similar to snapshots, but taken automatically at given intervals - it is a paid addon at $0.1/GB of backup.
Thanks for the detailed information and for running the tests.
The routing and latency look excellent.
For now I will review a few other offers as well before making a final decision, but I really appreciate your time and the information you shared.
Thanks again!
Hi,
We operate VPS infrastructure in Amsterdam with a focus on low-latency metro routing. Within the AMS network we typically see sub-millisecond to ~1 ms latency depending on destination and peering path.
We are connected to exchanges including AMS-IX and NL-IX, alongside other peering fabrics. For a full list of connected IXPs see https://bgp.tools/as/215296#ix
Snapshot functionality is not enabled by default, but it can be enabled per account upon request. How many snapshots would you require?
A Looking Glass with MTR functionality is available at:
https://lowping.nl/looking-glass
Test IPs:
IPv4: 103.147.153.70
IPv6: 2001:67c:e3c:5200::70

Hi Raoul,
Thanks for the detailed information and for providing the looking glass.
The routing and latency to my target network look excellent (~0.4 ms), which is exactly what I am looking for.
Regarding snapshots, I would likely only need 1–2 snapshots for safety and testing purposes.
Could you also share which VPS plans or configurations you would recommend for this setup, as well as the CPU model and disk type used on the nodes?
Thanks again for your help.
Glad to hear the latency looks good from your side 🙂
At the moment I have available capacity on nodes powered by Xeon Gold 6262V CPUs. Storage is based on datacenter grade SSDs.
For your use case, both the VPS Basic and VPS Pro plans would be suitable depending on how much headroom you prefer. Given your requirements, I can include up to 3 snapshots for either plan at no additional cost. Snapshots are stored on external storage to avoid impacting the primary node’s performance.
im surprised that you dont offer debian to be installed, i only see ubuntu, rockylinux and almalinux
AFAIK the guys running ERA-IX also run @Hybula hosting, a top-end provider (and actually living in NL). I have a VPS from them since years and am absolutely amazed and use it as a reference VPS.
Thank you for the mentions @concept @jsg!
To OP, are you targeting a specific network? The datacenter location is relevant to latency as well.
Debian 13 has been added
Is it true "Unmetered bandwidth" even in VPS Nano ?
Do you accept crypto?
I Didn't find Terms and Conditions on your website.
Yes, all VPS plans (including the VPS Nano) come with unmetered bandwidth. Each VPS includes a 1 Gbit uplink. While bandwidth is not metered, usage must remain within reasonable and fair-use limits to ensure network stability for all customers.
At this time, we do not accept cryptocurrency payments. Payments can currently be made via standard methods such as bank transfer and credit card.
Our Terms of Service are available here: https://lowping.nl/terms-of-service
The Terms and Conditions must be accepted during the account creation process before any service can be provisioned.
Hi Raoul,
Thanks for the information, that sounds good.
The Xeon Gold 6262V nodes look like a solid platform.
Just a couple of quick questions:
• Are the VPS disks NVMe or SATA SSD?
• What uplink speed do the nodes have (1G or 10G)?
• Do the VPS plans come with dedicated or shared CPU resources?
If everything looks good I will likely go ahead with one of the plans.
Thanks again.
Yes, I am mainly targeting a network located within the Amsterdam metro area.
The goal is to keep latency as low as possible to a service hosted within the Amsterdam network ecosystem, ideally via direct peering through exchanges like ERA-IX or AMS-IX rather than through transit providers.
From some networks I can see sub-millisecond to ~1 ms latency, so I am trying to stay within that range if possible.
Hybula is the sister company to Eranium which operates ERA-IX so it doesn't get better than that.

If you can share the network + IP we can take a look so you can find a proper match.
Our infra is in NorthC Amsterdam, so it really depends on the target network
Thanks.
I’ve already been testing latency to a host within the Eranium network in Amsterdam and the results from your looking glass look excellent (~0.15–0.2 ms via ERA-IX).
This is exactly the kind of metro routing I am looking for.
Could you share which VPS plans or configurations you would recommend for this setup?
Our plans are on the website, but probably out of your budget if you're used to LET prices, all our hardware is brand new EPYC 9xx4, U.2 storage, 20 Gbps uplink. Snapshots are possible, we use VirtFusion
DM me with more details about your project, we could probably do some discount.
Any host with Eranium transit should have excellent routing, plenty of choice lately!
Thanks for the clarification.
Yes, I’ve mostly been browsing LET offers recently, so that makes sense 🙂
The main goal of the project is simply to run a few latency-sensitive services that need to stay very close to the Eranium network within the Amsterdam metro area.
CPU and disk requirements are relatively modest, but stable routing and low latency are the most important factors.
If you have any smaller or custom VPS configurations available that would fit this use case, I’d definitely be interested in taking a look.
I'm sure they can do a custom configuration for you, just send them a pm.
Good questions 🙂
• Storage is based on datacenter-grade SATA SSDs (no NVMe at this time).
• Node uplinks depend on the specific node, currently either 40G or 100G upstream connectivity.
• CPU resources are shared, but allocated conservatively. We avoid aggressive overselling to maintain consistent performance.
Hi Raoul,
