Is CraneMail Down?

Hi Folks,

I am currently trying to receive some OTPs, but it seems that CraneMail is not receiving any emails. I also checked Webmail, and it is showing a 502 Bad Gateway error.

Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

  • No, it's just you. Webmail works fine for me.

  • I find it strange to post this here instead of contacting your provider.

Nghia, can you list your spam folder content and take screenshot?

  • Anyone have trouble with webmail lately? I find that when it is available in recent days, it's almost always slow and usually unusable for me.

Maybe try to host your own webmail or ... using email client?

  • That is such a helpful reply. Can't thank you enough. Maybe we should also suggest that to users of Fastmail, Gmail, MXroute, etc.

I mean, the email client option tho.

  • Yeah, we should completely give up on webmail because it can never be good.

Who hurt your feeling that made you feel so negative about all this?

I mean, if you feel webmail is slow sometimes, change to a client, you can be back to your webmail anytime soon right?

Why do you have to say such things like "we should completely give up on webmail"?

Yeah, you should give up on doing anything because of such a low moment in life.

  • No feeling. I shared physical (ie, time) observations about a core component of a popular product. Someone implied those observations don't matter because that component should be avoided anyway. As part of sarcasm, I mentioned Fastmail to counter the assumption that webmail is inherently inferior. If NameCrane should not (or does not want to be) compared to the industry's best, that's a different matter.

In any case, I noticed performance at NameCrane is significantly improved today.

It seems the ftp stuff is putting a lot of load on the web side and causing issues. I’m going to add some logging a little later tonight and likely put a per user connection limit.

For now I’ve left it off and can confirm web feels worlds better.

If anyone can find a webmail experience that gets close to Fastmail's sheer speed, intuitiveness, responsiveness and overall quality of user interface, constant uptime and reliability, I want to know about it. In other words, yeah, I dig it and I think I have enough experience to write what I wrote. Again, if someone else has accomplished what Fastmail did, please tell me.

@Francisco, I noticed a somewhat related issue... I'm using Apple Mail with MAPI / EWS credentials, and every once in a while it's not showing some messages that are definitely visible in the webmail interface. I haven't tested if IMAP is better, but would rather stay on EWS...

    Any idea or suggestion?

    TIA

Edit: I found I need to periodically "rebuild" the mailbox and that seems to help. Still wonder what causes the need to do this, as it's not a huge mailbox by any stretch of imagination

Apple Mail uses EAS not EWS. our EAS isn't perfect since we use an opensource alternative. I'll see if I can do some tweaks, it might just be a timeout issue on our end, or its from when SM has to restart (OOM issues, etc).

In the last last version they merged a memory leak fix that i'm sure we were getting hit with.

The mobile "em client" is quite good and free. It works with EWS which is native to SM and will work better than our EAS.
