Oracle free tier - Add a second vNIC to always free instances

d2411d2411 Member

Hey there,

just wonderung if its possible to build my own lowend cloud with always free instances.
So ive installed a pfSense on my oracle free tier instance and would like to attach a LAN interface to use the second vNIC as LAN for my other VMs.
The pfSense is running so far, but i am unable to attach a second vNIC to the VM.
Any other idea how to do that ?

Oracle used to have a .sh for that stuff, but I can't seem to find it anymore. It would be like ./secondary.sh -c or something like that. Maybe you're better at google search than I am. 🤭

    Edit: I think it's this one https://web.archive.org/web/20221013025636/https://docs.oracle.com/en-us/iaas/Content/Resources/Assets/secondary_vnic_all_configure.sh

Officially the E.2 micro instances supports only one VNIC
It seems it doesn’t work at all.
I will try to use a VLAN for that.
    Maybe that work.
I know that this are very limited resources.

Oh, yeah, the secondary vNIC is only available on the ARM VMs.

Hmm, not sure if I can install my pfsense on the ARM instances

You'd definitely get better performance if you were able to. Compared to the AMD, those ARMs are pretty powerful!

    Yeah, I see.
Have two of them using a ubuntu on it.
But not sure if there is an ARM build available

Apparently, only Netgate hardware appliances are supported on ARM.
