Important buc1 Hosteroid server termination

I wanted to let you know that node buc1 will terminate on 17th of April 2026. The termination does not reflect on what FOSSVPS does or has done, simply the end of the very generous free donation period.
Please ensure you take your backups prior to this date as all data WILL BE DESTROYED.
Unfortunately we cannot migrate you, however you are very welcome to have a replacement rebuild in Frankfurt (de1), Moldova (mol1), Buffalo (us1), L.A. (us2).
A rebuild does mean all server data is destroyed.
To request a rebuild either send a DM on LES or LET to @msatt or send an email to [email protected].
In your message state you want a rebuild of buc1 vmid on either de1, mol1, us1 or us2. You can also change the Operating system if you wish (Debian, Ubuntu or Alpine).
The cut off date for migration will be 16th of April 2026 after this, your server and all records will be automatically destroyed.
I am sorry that this has happened but Hosteroid have been extremely generous in providing us this service for free.
I hope you achieved everything you wanted.
Best wishes.
Mike

Did he request Bucharest?
Ahh - I can see you want to catch me out on GDPR
@msatt It has been renewed free of charge
@Hosteroid I had prepared this post but it got delayed due to a major backend update. All good now so once again thank you for granting the new six month extension.
I wonder though, @msatt why so late, actually truly in the last minute while you (sad it seemed to me) announced the end of service for buc1.
Maybe @Hosteroid is a gofer and awoke just in time to notice that they had slept over something relatively important *g
Thank you both, Hosteroid, and in particular msatt!
*Bump
@jsg - I assumed you were asking for comments from @Hosteroid so did not reply.
all of their very generous donations
To answer your question from FOSSVPS side.
I asked about renewal and was told that it would not be renewed as they were also (very generously) funding 2 other projects with Tom. In this current economic climate every penny counts and I completely understood. That was why I posted the termination notice (to give everyone as much notice as possible). I also gave Hosteroid an outline of what we had been doing.
About a week later (unprompted) Hosteroid came back and generously gave us an extension of a further 6 months (would have been great if it was a year).
These are difficult times for providers so we
Because of the termination, as detailed here, I am shutting down the buc1 on the 17th of April. I will also be creating buc2 so everything will start 'fresh'.

My inherent question was not directed at either of you in particular, but I'm glad about and appreciate your response.
To be frank, I like Tom, he seems to be a nice guy. But I do not like situations like the one you outlined. And at the end of the day you, @msatt, have shown to do it the right way that is, learning and doing experiments in private, and offering well set up and reliable VPSs on free servers you receive from providers. No funny experiments. I like and prefer your way.
Besides, extra and special kudos for even providing two dedis yourself!
Thank you! (and please keep it the way you're doing it)
Thank you @jsg your comments are genuinely appreciated and that is what keeps me working (very hard) in the background.
Quick bump to remind everyone that the buc1 server will be terminated on 17th April 2026.
Those currently using it have a choice of a migrate to buc2 or a full rebuild on any of our other nodes.
Emails have been sent to existing users explaining the process.

Final reminder buc1 server will be terminated on 17th April 2026 (2 days time). Informational emails have been sent.
We still have plenty of space on buc2 for those that wish to apply (see sig).
