What kind of offers are you all hoping to see? 😊

Right now we’re running dedicated server promos, so we won’t be posting any VPS deals at the moment.

Just a quick heads-up — we’re not able to offer $99/year (or similar) plans. With current costs, that pricing simply isn’t sustainable. Our annual plans start at $200+ per year.

We truly appreciate your understanding and support!

    They want 320/y I'm sure ;)

Also I'd like to take a little moment to thank some people. I will let the thread run it's course for a while but it will be closed at some point cos the provider thread is probably coming soon... Easter is coming.

Thank you @FAT32 . I could elaborate but... Godspeed and I hope you find in life what you're looking for. By the sound of it you're experiencing some hardships. We're just 'digital' but we support you. Thanks for providing us with a seriously messed up place to turn to when we need a proper form of escapism.

    Also... Thank you @host_c @SolidVPS @visualwebtechnologies @NDTN @VPSSLIM @HostDZire @DediRock @HostBilby @oloke in no particular order.

Did I miss anyone? If so, Im sorry. But thank you for playing along, you all regulars, solid providers, not afraid to mix a bit of fun with businesses by joining these kinds threads. Much appreciated. I hope we treaded you kindly this time.

Also, major thanks to all users who decided to adopt the Green Dino avatar for a while. For some it might be emotional... Parting with a part of your identity, albeit for a short while...

Its just silly I guess but seeing all them green dinos all over the place... It cracked me up :)

    -- start shameless advertising --
That being said. DAS is always looking for people to join. We always in need of new Dino members!
    -- end shameless advertising --

I have that same chicken in the same location (LT) and I'm very happy with it. It's an all-around solid VPS. I just wish the bandwidth cap was a bit higher than 8 TB! But it's such a great deal that I really can't complain.

What are you doing with a 30GB disk that requires more than 8TB of bandwidth?

That means you're transferring the disk 273 times a month! Or 8.8 times a day!

It runs a Tor non-exit relay (which uses almost no disk). After about half of the month is through, the relay enters hibernation for its remainder as it approaches the bandwidth cap. I plan to set up Hyphanet (a lower-bandwidth distributed data store) to make use of the free 10 Mbps that remains even when the bandwidth cap has been exceeded.

European relays tend to use a lot more bandwidth than non-European relays.

This is the relay (ignore the incorrect GeoIP info, it's in LT not the US):
    https://metrics.torproject.org/rs.html#details/58F46CEEA4E3BB6EDA3E37BAD31E1326D61E17D4

Be careful, we dont allow it per our TOS, this is already listed in Prohibited Usage:

"- Tor exit nodes, Tor relays, Tor bridges, Tor hidden services, or any other Tor‑related activity"

(Edit) It wasn't in the AUP when I first read it. It must be a relatively new addition. Damn. :/
    https://web.archive.org/web/20251205021353/https://solidvps.com/acceptable-usage-policy.php

I think @Jar has a reason for disliking you. Public Tor is usually not allowed on VPS.
You should have consulted the vendor beforehand, instead of exploiting the TOS vulnerability in @SolidVPS.
Nevertheless, suppliers also have the right to fix the loopholes.

You're thinking of Tor exits. Almost every VPS provider allows non-exits. :)

I always consult the ToS and AUP before purchasing a product, which is proper.

I neither use nor am familiar with Tor, and just through exposure to the hosting industry, even I know that most providers don't care about non-exit stuff.

He appears to be running a public Exit Node.

Be careful, we dont allow it per our TOS, this is already listed in Prohibited Usage:

"- Tor exit nodes, Tor relays, Tor bridges, Tor hidden services, or any other Tor‑related activity"

(Edit) It wasn't in the AUP when I first read it. It must be a relatively new addition. Damn. :/

That's incorrect. I do run several exits, but only with providers who explicitly advertise support for exits and don't mind dirtying their subnets. The majority of my relays are non-exit relays, configured with ExitRelay 0 in /etc/tor/torrc.

If you look at the relay flags, you'll see "Fast, Running, Valid". If it was an exit, it would have "Exit" in there as well. You can also note that it shows reject *:* for the exit policy, which means all IPs and all ports are denied.

I don't know what I'm looking at but it looks bad; it probably is bad and the end is nigh.

Therefore people are staring at 2 colours, betting and hoping that green will be displayed the following day?

Yes. Don't forget your pension also depends on this mechanism

That's pretty much it until you realise people gamble much more with margin and options trading.

    • Margin is pretty much: If you win, you win 3x; if you lose, you also lose 3x
    • Option is pretty much: You can win / lose money in both red / green color
