Evolution Host’s free servers are a scam?

Comments

  • People here do not value contract unless big amount is involved. I think this has been the story in many cases.

Provider offers a free VDS for promotion (free). You got a vps with much smaller spec.... According to LET logic, you shouldn't complaint because it was FREE!

Why one should care about contracts when you are getting something free!

This has been disappointing and what more disappointing is, these type of fraudulent offers are being allowed to go on for such a long time.

Evolution Host is getting SEO boost and once they see that some sites are irrelevant in the metrices, they will close the contract. (even this I can accept as long as it mentions in the contract)

But you promise to give a high spec VDS in the spec but give some chear spec vps..... That is wrong eveb if it is free.

But hey, many people here will tell you that, you should shut up because it is free.

Not to mention VDS or VPS, but they did approve my application, and then before I got the VPS, They said they regretted it again.

But in any case, we have nothing to lose, we just record one of their possibilities.

Thank you for your reply and have a nice day~

I think you should take a few days off and relax a bit.

I'd feel pissed if someone offered something to me and then revoked it no matter what it is or how much it's worth. It leaves a bad taste in one's mouth to feel fooled like that. Although I wouldn't call the servers a scam... That's a clickbait title for sure, but the insult is not losing out on something free but on having your excitement built up and then dashed.

If someone offers you a free three course meal at a fabulous restaurant and you get dressed and ready and go there and they suddenly change their mind, you'd probably feel pissed off.

    Actually no, I wouldn't.
Might be a generational thing (I'm old as fuck) but feeling entitled to get something for free is just completely absurd to me.
If someone offers me something for free, I'm grateful. If they remove it, I'm no longer grateful. That's about it for me. It does not turn over into some kind of resentment, I'm back to whatever state I was in before the offer.

How is this any different, from a psychological perspective?

It is extremely different. If a company offered me a three course meal at a fabulous restaurant, I would of course assume that there was a catch somewhere and base my decision upon what that catch was. Companies does not do things for free. If they do, they will very soon no longer be a company.

Evolution host did not offer anything "for free". From the email transcripts it is perfectly clear that Evolution host and the OP entered into a valid contract. OP did his part of the contract and after that Evolution Host felt entitled not to "pay" for services rendered. This is textbook example of bait and switch.

Some people think that I got the server they opened and then it was canceled.

In fact, they confirmed the contract and asked me to make a backlink. When I did it, they repented for no reason.

So I wrote this post just to give some reference to anyone who applies for the contract, that's all.

See, that's the thing. It's not about feeling entitled to something free, it's about feeling tricked by given exciting news and then having that taken away. Do you really think none of these following situations would upset you?

    • Being told that you'll get a raise at work, just to be told it was an administrative mistake
    • Getting banned on your favorite forum, unbanned after appeal, then re-banned because the unbanning was in error
    • Being told that you won a small but not insignificant lottery, just to be told that someone else fucked up
    • Getting an award from an organization you respect, just to be told that there was a mix-up in names

Sure, you aren't entitled to any of these, but does that lessen the validity of how you (or others) would feel?

Not if you won it in a legitimate sweepstakes or competition. If the offer was out of the blue, sure, but that's not what happened here. Being told that you could be, effectively, paid with a VDS in exchange for advertising space is not the same as being offered something that's too good to be true and rightfully fooled.

OP just needs a place to vent. No problem.

However the title and scam calling are both deliberately inflammatory. It's clear you wish to punish them in some way and decided to do so via negative SEO. I suggest you call on a mod to change this. Follow your own example if you want to be professional and respectful.

FWIW I also engaged with EvolutionHost's free VPS offerings many years ago before ultimately deciding I didn't need their machine.

I agree. It's totally fine to vent and what happened was definitely unfair and would leave a bad taste in anyone's mouth, but "scam" has a very specific meaning here: A premeditated attempt to swindle someone out of money for services that will not be delivered as stated. A slightly better title would be something like "EvolutionHost's free servers are a bait-and-switch".

But I also understand writing such a title in the heat of the moment right after the bomb dropped.

@angstrom Perhaps you could adjust the title to better reflect the contents of the post?

    • Being told that you'll get a raise at work, just to be told it was an administrative mistake

I do not think getting paid for work is the same as getting something for free, so I have a hard time making that comparison feel valid. But if it happened, shit happens. Mistakes happens. If I had a mental breakdown every time someone made a mistake that affected me I would not be here today.

    • Getting banned on your favorite forum, unbanned after appeal, then re-banned because the unbanning was in error

Shit happens. Public forums have their rules, if they do not want me there for whatever reason then so be it, it is not a human right to frequent public forums.

    • Being told that you won a small but not insignificant lottery, just to be told that someone else fucked up

    Shit happens. Again, mistakes happen.

    • Getting an award from an organization you respect, just to be told that there was a mix-up in names

Again, shit and mistakes happens. Coming up with different scenarios with exactly the same premise will not change my answer. Shit still happens.

Sure, you aren't entitled to any of these, but does that lessen the validity of how you (or others) would feel?

Yes, in my mind it absolutely does. Feelings are not automatically valid, they are very often unreasonable and unfair. Not being able to understand this and handle those feelings will make your life very miserable. What people initially feel often has no bearing in reality so people reacting only on feeling are usually very wrong.
Take op as example, he started this thread claiming scam. Now, when his feelings have settled, he wishes to change the title. Maybe his feelings weren't so valid after all?

No, it’s just that after I withdrew the Git record and the backlink to the website, this matter is no longer worth mentioning to me.

My feelings and experiences are real, at the very least.

Off topic: Oracle's "Free for Life" program is real and they treat everyone equally, no matter who you are or where you come from. You may be able to register an account and get a free VPS, or you may not know when your account will be deactivated.

Then, it seems like the other so-called "free VPS" ones are, well, not real. ;)

It's smaller than Evolution and Oracle, but deletion dates are known and there's no sudden deactivations.

Thank you for your suggestion. The free VPS resources provided by mastt should be given to those who need them more. I don't want to take up this opportunity.

I don't have as much desire for free VPS anymore. I have some small VPS and Root Servers at Netcup, which are enough for some of my small services. Additionally, I also have an Oracle free VPS (only for learning purposes).

This event has made me reflect on not being too greedy.

Being content with what I have is enough.

    Hello FOSSVPS Team,

I am a developer from Pakistan working on an open-source WhatsApp bot for the Urdu-speaking community. The bot helps people learn programming basics and provides useful features like sticker making, welcome messages, and group management tools. It is completely free and open-source.

I need a VPS to host this bot 24/7 so it can be available to users all the time. My local machine cannot run it continuously.

Preferred location: Moldova Chisinau (or whichever is available)

    Thank you for your support!

His feelings were and are still valid, even if the way he initially expressed himself was a bit hyperbolic.

Perhaps you go with the flow more easily and don't mind being given false hope, but to the majority of people, it's at least a little distressing. If you genuinely would not be bothered if you won the lottery just to be told that it was a mistake, then your reaction is certainly within the minority. Which is not a problem, of course.
