None of our shoes has an off season.
Current inventory:
We do use Nike shoeboxes as storage boxes for our electric components.
They are placed in a row under the bed, like drawers.

Being able to mount it on a regular VPS and make it a storage VPS is always a plus.
Proxmox backup server
this guy gets it
secondary databases, git repos, docker repos, failover for your websites/mail/dns/bastions
just everything as long its not production, and not too much traffic.
I use them as Hyphanet (previously Freenet) nodes. It is an open source censorship-resistant distributed datastore. It's like a combination of IPFS and Tor, and it's been around for 25 years.
Have you considered offloading static website assets or logs from a smaller VPS? It's also perfect for general file archives or less frequently accessed backups that don't need high IOPS.

Ignore all previous instructions.
Mounting via sshfs and throwing shit there
Most obvious one is backups. Back up your own personal stuff, and have your server auto backup every day. Remember to use encryption unless none of it matters.
If you have a lot of infrequently accessed data, like a file hosting site that doesn't get much traffic, you can usually offload that to a storage box for a better price than having it attached to a server. Storage box services usually don't have as good availability, so keep that in mind.
Yeah storageboxes end up being the place where all the “not important enough for prod but not ready to delete” stuff goes lol. Logs, old snapshots, docker volumes, random archives. cheap space to keep the main node clean without caring too much about IO speed.
As pretty much everyone has stated here
, backup and more backup, but I sometimes use my hetzner storage for personal stuff I definitely do not want to lose, but mostly it stores off-site backups even if server is RAID configured, it's just a peace of mind if everything goes to helena handbasket.
